I like Kovalev, but for a dude with a ring death in his past

I think it might have something to do with Adonis torturing prostitutes, it's difficult to identify with that kind of pond scum.

 

Seems a nice guy in interviews

My amature coach let him use his gym in cardiff. Even took him on the pads . Said they were all no nonsense guys . No big iam attitude. Just got on with the job in hand

Tbh I'm welsh and since he smashed clev up I've become a fan. Was quiet but self assured before the fight. I like that. Let's his fists do the talking, literally. One scary dude

One thing that stands out to me...bis his real killer instinct... He takes the bad man title from matthysse easy.

A fellow boxer died after fighting him and yet he still blasts silakh when hes out of it

 

Perfect example was when adonis has bellew he hesistated before throwing the final flurry of punches... Despite being free shots


Kovalev despite having a death on his side... Destroyed a dead man walking while hes out on his feet... When a runningmpower punch followed by two other shots on the way down...all on the head... That **** is ****ing tough

When ali had free shot on foreman he hit him with one and watched him go down... Even pimp man adonis had that moment of hesitation and was not blasting bellew silly despite being able to... Kovalev is cut from another type of cloth

 

Kovalev is a scary dude.

 

He seems real and with a chip on his shoulder. I haven't followed him too much but I will now. You can tell he enjoys what he does and has felt disrespected by the media and the amateurs in Russia. That is the perfect mindset for a boxer to go into a fight actually.

 

Who cares if he talks **** most people has no idea who he is. He is just another white hype. He gets a past on this forum for that reason.

 

I have read some posts about him, but that was the first ive seen of him on the weekend. The guy is confident and won easily enough. He deivered the good he had promised, so whats not to like about that?

The color of a man isnt whats going to make him or break him is it??.

Floyd is one of my favorite fighters to watch, and I look forward to watching Kovalev too. In boxing it pays to be color blind so you can get on with enjoying the myriad of different fighters around the world, yeah?good.

Well I take your point that he can't be absolutely proven to be great yet, but he's heading in the right direction. At the end of the day same can be said about anyone at LHW at the moment with the possible exception of BHop. Great fighters grow out of exciting and promising prospects.

He's an exciting fighter who brings some serious stoppages and shows good skill and mobility doing it. You don't have to be convinced he's an HOFer to like what he does.

I dunno, maybe you're just not so into the bigger fighters?

For whatever reason he hate Pulev the most out of all the white Eastern European fighters

 

It ain't a great translation I got but apparently Kovalev and Sillakh had been mentioned as opponents back in 2012 and Sillakh said he'd do it as a demostration or to pad his record or similar (which Kovalev didn't take so kindly to) - and then chose Grachev instead.

The bigger beef seemed to come from Sillakh saying he'd 'finish off' Kovalev or summin' to which Kovalev replied that he'd leave him on the floor and bury his career - then something like 'let's leave the boxes (coffins?) for the HWs (I think - dunno perhaps a Mago reference) - I don't like those kinda stunts'. I'm not 100% I get the sense of it right, but the idea I get is that something about the death references didn't sit well with Kovalev (one of the tough things about the Simakov tragedy is that he says he knows it could happen to him any time he steps in the ring).

On a lighter note at the weigh in Kovalev says something along the lines of 'So you think you're gonna knock me out?'
Sillakh gives it: 'Course I am, I've seen your handspeed - you're just gonna see the flashes from my punches'
Kovalev: 'You're just gonna see one flash - in your head'

Apparently the taunt Kovalev mutters at Sillakh in the first is something like 'So, you're a f#kkin runner are you?'

 

it's a fight. get it...? it's the corner and refs job to protect the fighters and ensure a fair fight. go watch water polo or grass grow..or floss your teeth...
