But I always cringe when he mentions these smaller guys In the Chavez face-off, saying nobody wanted to face him though he'd call them out, Chaves asked 'Who?' 'Mayweather, Cotto, Pacquiao' I don't care what weight they have dragged themselves upto, or what weight he is willing to drain himself to, your list of call-outs can't be 3 men from two divisions below you I understand he wants a big-money fight, I also understand he is clearly not afraid to fight bigger fighters, and I also understand that by saying the above names he stays relevent, but everytime he does it it makes me cringe, and I feel for him, because as Chavez said 'Martinez is a great fighter, he gives great fights, but the next day..the people don't remember him'
I don't really see the problem when all 3 of them have won titles at 154 lbs and have fought guys who weighed the same on fight night a Martinez did against Barker. (164 lbs) 2 of them fight at 154 lbs and thats where the fight will be.
But of course actual middleweights like Geale, Quillin, and Sturm also turned him down as well. Chavez's weak effort at making it sound like Martinez avoided Zbik was pathetic.
he does not fight anyone his size lately. his best knock out victory is against a welterweight stick figure.
You understand that it's only very recently in his career that Martinez has been considered a middleweight, yes?
People are saying that Martinez calls out smaller dudes but they forget that he fought with Pavlik, Barker, Macklin and I'd add here and Williams, who are bigger guys/ more natural MW's than him. Now is fighting Jr who's much bigger than him . Martinez is a small MW and as he said he wants to fight with the best from p4p list i.e Mayweather jr. SMW category is too much for Sergio and besides that there aren't bigger draws than Floyd or Cotto .
Pac is too small for Martinez. That is the one I hate Martinez calling out, there is just no comparasion even though Pac fought at "150lbs" Pac is too small. Floyd and Cotto I can understand. Cotto fights at 154lbs and is a Champ there. Floyd has already fought twice at 154lbs and more than likely is going to stay there. So I don't see a problem by Martinez calling them out.
And all signs point to Sergio still being able to make 154, where Floyd and Cotto are currently campaigning. :yep
Chavez looked like Godzilla compared to Martinez when Kellerman had then stand up at the face off and he's put on weight since rather than lose it.
