Ok, just went to a little local show..nothing major...am and pro mma fights in Johnstown pa, with two pro boxing matches at the end. Good show all around..and i work out with some of the mma guys at one of the local gyms, so it was cool to see them fight. But let me tell you what I noticed...mma sucks live. I have been watching mma for years, boxed for years..have been training mma for 3 months, and have been reading allot about BJJ and catch as catch can wrestling...so while I am no expert about ground fighting, I most likely know a bit more then many of the people watching the fights I was at. Still, once the guys got to the ground, I couldnt see ****...was just impossible for the most part, then all of sudden a guy would tap...everyone would kind of look at the person next to them and ask what happend..and that person would say....ahhhh I think...ahhhh.

So my point is this...MMA sucks live, or at least everything on the ground does. And ground fighting is a bit boring to most people anyhow..but when you cant see whats happening..its horrible.

I guess thats why back in the day pro wrestling became big fake and showey....well thats just a rant....but just had to get that off my chest.

I went to UFC 82 and I also had trouble seeing the ground fighting also. I had floor seats so it was tough to see through the cage. I think the cage is better for mma fights but the ring is better for visual.

even then though..its tough to see..i mean.. i have watched guys in the gym rolling...and you need to be able to walk around and get 360 views to see whats going on from 4 feet away..and even then...you might miss something.....I mean....the mma shows seem to do well, and all..but i do think thats a weakness of ground fighting as a spectator sport..and its one of the reason why wrestling..BJJ..or back in the day, real shoot wrestling, was never as possible as boxing or other striking arts.

I've been to domestic small show and it can be tough. It's behind fencing, there are many posts in the way, the grappling can be hard to see etc

All major combat events need to have WAY MORE large screens up. Right above the ring/cage there should be HUGE screens.

I've never been to an MMA indy show but I went to 118 in Boston and had a blast. Admittedly it was hard to see when the fights would go to the ground but the UFC had like 10 big screens set up so I didn't miss a beat.

I would tend to agree that at SMALL shows MMA would suck live unless it was striker heavy. I have gone to MMA shows where they had great camera coverage AND large screen televisions to see all of the action. That made even the ground game easy to follow.

I would say in general boxing is a better show because it is easier to see, but MMA atmosphere on lower level shows is many levels above boxing's.

So you can relate to a predominately drunk, hillbilly atmosphere of fat people in Tap Out shirts that think they are badasses?

That attitude kept me away from MMA at first. So I gave it a shot... Now maybe this is because I am in California not Texas, but it was a diverse atmosphere with everyone showing love to the game.

In my section we had some Blacks, chollo Mexicans, White surfer dudes, desert rat White dudes, and plain ol' folks of all colors and ages. It was a very diverse crowd.

Boxing was diverse too, but everybody there was OLD. Damn.

I love M.M.A but I think boxing is much better, I'd rather see a dude taking punches to the body and face while standing then try to see whats happening when they're pinned to the canvas.
