I liked Larry Merchant, but now he can seriously croak for all I care.

Why did he only ask Khan one question on Khans big night, after a big performance?

He was more keen on talking to Maidana, but Khan should've had his time under the lights, he put on a classic performance.

    **** Larry Merchant.

That was a **** move by him. HBO must have thought that Maidana was robbed or something.

I've always liked Roy as a commentator. They should have him doing fights as much as possible.
Larry Merchant should retire. I've never hated the guy like some people do, but his time has passed.
And Steward has this annoying habit of picking up on one thing happening early in a fight and commenting on it relentlessly even when the fight changes.

Larry Merchant is the Dan Rather of boxing news anchors/commentators.

The only people who like him are a couple of Top-level suits at HBO.

Steward is the worst in my opinion. I agree with Boinko in that Steward claims to see something within the first 30 seconds of every fight, whether real or imagined, and continues to harp on it throughout the fight. It's freaking annoying. Even when adjustments have been made, he'll continue to bring it up...

I honestly think HBO would prefer to get rid of him. They tried to a few years ago and it was boxing writers that got their panties in a bunch about it. I noticed he wasn't at the pac-marg ppv and thought that it was a sign they might possibly finally be pushing him out.

Ya he also seems to jump on the taller fighters bandwagon in the first minute even if they aren't putting in good work. "He may not be winning right now, but if things keep going the way they are I think things will end up boding well for him later in the fight" Or claiming a fighter can't keep up a pace for 12 rounds even if there is no hint of any fading at all.

I'm starting to feel the same way.

And yes, I thought Jones was exceptional, as always.

really? This is what got you riled up? Not him being a dick to Jason Litzau or being drunk and making an ass of himself to Michael Katsidis following his brother's death?

    Showtime > HBO

    Antonio Tarver > HBO

Merchant has been a dick for years now, he pushed it far when he mentioned the death of Micheal Katsidis's brother. And he was a dick last night again. I hope he gets replaced soon

I thought the exact same thing. It was such a short post-fight interview... one of the worst I've ever seen given how exciting the fight was.

Steward doesn't seem to be able to call a fight at all. In the Williams-Martinez fight he seemed shocked that Martinez landed the left and claimed that it was a punch from nowhere after Williams had been dominating, which was simply total bollocks. Martinez couldn't miss with the left hand and although nobody could have picked that it would starch Williams the way it did, it was hardly a surprise to see him landing a flush overhand left, he'd already landed several. It was like he was watching a different fight.
