I was pretty out spoken about my opinion that Lee/Vera II would look a whole lot like the first fight. However, I closed pretty much every post by saying Lee had a decent shot at proving me wrong. As it turned out Lee did a really good job of avenging his only loss. I'm pretty sure that was the first time I ever saw Lee stick to a good game plan for the entirety of a fight. So who's next for Andy Lee?
Probably Macklin in New York on St. Patrick's Day weekend, especially since DiBella never got to make that Duddy-Lee match he was so giddy about earlier this year.
Whoooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaa everybody. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. He was fighting Brian Vera.
Maybe Rubio? While Martinez and Chavez Jr mix it up this Spring (Sergio really wants that belt back) and Rubio sits out angered, Lee could be given a chance -implicitely- at Martinez assuming that's what's on the other end of a win over Rubio. Rubio once fought on HBO, and is determined to get a title shot - he needs HBO and/or PPV exposure for that.
Chavez Junior, Barker, Martinez etc etc. I'd fancy him against any of them. Personally I'd like to see him in with Barker next. I'd like to see Andy pick up the European title before he goes on for bigger honours, there is history between the two fighters since their time together at Repton and it's a fight both guys probably feel they could win.
Lee v Pirog on undercard of Martinez V Macklin OR Lee V Martinez with Macklin V Pirog on undercard would be cool. Also, I'd like to see the likes of Fernando Guerrero, Kid chocolate, Martinez, Lee Chavez Jr Sturm, Macklin and a few more not mentioned here, in some sort of a tournament. 160 is packed at the moment.
He fought well and stuck to his gameplan and dominated the fight, credit for that. I'm still not sold on this guy though against better fighters, let him beat Pirog or somebody in the top ten and we'll see.
Lee looked very impressive, but it was against a very limited fighter. Fighting a top-5 MW is a whole other story. Seems like a good dude though, so I wish him the best.
This is true, the win needs to be put into perspective but kudos to him for getting personal redemption and taking a fight he didn't need to. All to rare these days..
He showed three times the ring IQ, ring generalship, discipline and talent he showed against McEwan, I must admit. Vera was very poor though, tough ******* that he still is.
Lee looked very good last night ..He really mixed it up his upper cuts were a thing of beauty ..I really beleive had he fought Duddy he would have Koed him .
I did not feel like that was the best Vera I've seen, but he did land some good right hands starting less than a minute into the fight. Last time they fought Lee came unstuck over the right hand, abandoned his game plan, and got knocked out. This time he stayed cool and displayed a very workman like style. That's what impressed me.
Yea, he was very impressive last night, but still not ready for the likes of Martinez, imo. Barker would be a good fight.
