Make no bones about it, if ODH beats pac he will be Golden Boy Magazine, sorry I mean Ring Magazine p4p no.1. He has already stated that this fight is for the title of the world's no.1 fighter, and with JMM mysteriously locked in place at no.2 be sure for a Golden Boy love-in if it does happen.

If Pac. beats DLH, he's still #1. If Hatton beats Pac will Pac still be #1 or ranked higher than Hatton? If not it will be hard to rank Hatton beneath #2 JMM.

Calzaghe is ranked 1 by a lot of people. And 2 by a lot of people.

If Hatton beats Pac, then his resume is better than Calzaghe's, so I don't see what's so laughable about him saying this.

In response to the thread title.....

Why does that statement make you lose respect for Hatton ?

He is entitled to his opinion which is exactly what p4p is, its an opinion.
If you dont agree with Hatton`s opinion about beating Pac to become p4p best then ok... but its taking it a bit far to say you lose respect for him, ****ing hell, haha, it doesnt take much to rattle your cage does it ?

Outside the ring talk is 90% BS anyway... I judge by what they do in the ring, its those actions that warrant respect or lack of IMO.

Hatton has no chance vs. either Pacquiao or De La Hoya.

alright. perhaps my choice of language was unfortunate. I'm really not that pissed off about him saying it specifically. more tired of hearing it as i said from the mayweather fight.

however i think it's an ill considered remark which i have now taken the opportunity to blow out of all proportion :rasta

i do however strongly disagree with the logic behind it and anyone who agrees with him. Pacman is a lightweight/ superfeatherweight and to suggest that beating him at light-welter or welter weight if he steps up to fight them does not make Hatton OR DLH the P4P best. not even close. If Ruiz had beaten Rjj would that made him P4P best? :patsch yes i know the size difference is much more dramatic but beating up on someone who is stepping up has to be taken in context.

i dont even agree that beating Mayweather would have made either of them P4P best. Hatton does not have the range of achievements that Mayweather had and has looked shakey away from light welter. ODLH would have had a slightly better shout simply on past achievements but for the fight being at junior middleweight meaning mayweather was stepping up yet again in weight class.

I have Hatton P4P higher than Pac right now. Head to head Hatton mauls Pac and wins by KO. Head to head is all that counts for me because that is what boxing is, if you start to bring other factors such as resume into the equation your analysis is skewed

I think Hatton was expressing the desire to become the P4P #1, perhaps he choose his words incorrectly and implied that beating Pac would automatically make him that. I can't really work out why someone would "lose" respect for Hatton for this statment? No one seems to "lose respect" of Mayweather when he calls Hatton and Hoya "pussies" in a drunken rant posted on the web. :-(

He honestly didn't think the Mayweather fight would be an "easy KO" for him. I promise you that, not only had I heard him say the opposite plenty of times in the press but I was also told personally by him that it would be the toughest fight he had ever and would ever fight. He said that Mayweather is rightly the very best in the World and possibly an ATG but if he fights the right fight he firmly believed that he could win. All boxers believe they can win, or else they wouldn't get into the ring, or, if they did, they would forever fight at a level at the very bottom tier of professional.

Ricky stressed that if he would do anything wrong in the fight, especially losing his head, seeing red and going in all guns blazing (which is exactly what started happening after the 6th) then he would have no chance as "you have to fight the most perfect fight of your career to beat someone as brilliant as Floyd".

So, yeah, whether you think Ricky ever had a chance against Floyd, no matter how perfect his fight was, he definitely never, ever thought, even in the haze of a drunken hour, that he would achieve an easy KO or an easy anything.

P.s. I have no idea what you lot are moaning about regarding this latest article and interview. **** me! You just love finding things to get upset about, don't you? Even if it turns out to be something most sane people would have no emotion about, you will still push yourselves to have a strong and angry opinion!:-(

Pound 4 pound is subjective anyway, i personally have Calzaghe at no. 1 so who gives a ****!

And a point Hatton lost to what most people considered p4p no. 1 in Mayweather and flew down everyones rankings, why shouldnt he fly back up if he beats Pacman!?
