I think what Jerry taugh us is that if you don't give Junma the room to load up he's not nearly as powerful but the other things that he taugh us is that if you go inside you'd better have a really good slip game cause he's gonna throw over 100 punches per round if you let him. So basically pick your poison...

I'm probably more interested in a Vasquez fight because of his size and power. He might have more affect inside. That being said though vazques would certainly be looking to land more affectively and would likely be more open to counters inside.

Hey, if you can't figure out what putting the word "even" into the sentence "I wasn't even this goddamn dumb when I was your age" implies, that's not my problem. In fact, the irony of it is rather amusing.

Why would I respond? If you go after people's spelling (in particular someone whose first language likely isn't English), don't be surprised if it's thrown back in your face.

"He attacked me FIRST", you say? Now who sounds childish?

I dont agree with Half of the original post. I think that Penalosa was taking far too many shots and he was never going to win the fight to be honest. NALLEGE, do you think you could of carried on after taking that many punches to the body.

If it was me I would rather live to see another day. He was not going to win, no matter how much you wanted him to win.

I think it was a good stoppage. JuanMa was just too big, too strong and too young. Still, hats off to Gerry.

You have a point in that Penalosa went out in that round and was more competitive - but he still LOST the round. I think Roach was looking for him to make a statement by winning the round clearly. That he did not do.

Guys, nobody wants to see Penalosa die in the ring. I've been in fights like that where all you can do is keep on trucking. Penalosa didn't want it stopped, and if I were his trainer, I would've given him another round. When Roach warned him he was going to stop it, Penalosa turned it up a bit more. No fighter ever wants their trainer to stop the fight. There are times to stop a fight, and there are times to let it go a round or two. My opinion is if my fighter says don't stop it, I won't unless he was being completely battered. Maybe I'm biased because I love Penalosa. Nobody wants to see a ring death or permanent damage to a fighter.

JuanMa did look huge in the ring though compared to Penalosa. To hang with a fighter after coming up a few weight classes at age 36 was phenomenal. Good post:good

Aside from not KOing Gerry, JuanMan did everything he should have done. So how in the world did he look ordinary. JuanMa got caught with some counters, because I don't think he could believe Gerry, who was getting hit so much, still had enough in him to do that a few times. So because he didn't KO him, he looks ordinary. Hmm...

I don't care about ko's. JuanMa looked ordinary last night, and that isn't a bad criticism. This is said about many fighters yet, how is JuanMa excluded from this minor criticism? Against a guy like Izzy Vasquez, JuanMa better not let him land that left hook. JuanMa's left looked weak, and he looked to just throw punches instead of digging or looking for the smart shot. This is a criticism of many young fighters. I'm a JuanMa fan, but I keep it real.

Considering how long Roach has worked with Penalosa I will agree with what he decided ! !Unless you have trained prize fighters your whole life how can you understand what goes on in the mind of a coach when he sees his fighter getting manhandled ??

I never once saw Penalosa begging for the fight to continue. In fact, I remember him approving of the stoppage. He realized the multitude of punches he had already taken and would be taking for the next three rounds wouldn't be good for him. Sorry, but I thought Penalosa wanted the fight stopped but he didn't want to have to "quit" himself. Go back and look at the conversation between Roach and Gerry and you'll probably see it different.

Well, he did want the fight to continue. I have no problem with a trainer stopping a fight if their fighter is taking a beating. What is said afterwards is said afterwards between the fighter and trainer.
