Ask Gerry Penalosa and Chico Corrales. They didn't know what their trainers/cornermen were thinking in the end. Nobody is saying Penalosa should've been allowed to go 3 more rounds. You keep an eye on him round by round, and if a hard punch or a two piece land clean, you stop it.

Miranda didn't ko Green. Green came to 160, and had medical problems before he fought Miranda anyway, and like a lot of fighters who might not get a second chance at a name, he took that chance and lost out. I think Green takes Miranda out next time.

I just completely disagree with the original poster. Roach said he'd give him one round to do better...he did better that round, and then he did even worse than his previous worst round in the next one.

Penalosa took 444 punches from a guy with a punch KO power in only 9 rounds. He's 36 had over 60 fights......... He had enough.

400 of the punches were blocked, and Penalosa wanted to continue. I would've given him another round to show me something. The people who give us punch stats are guys in a van pressing what punches they think landed. JuanMa moves on. He learned a lot in this fight.

Then maybe you should become a trainer, rather than an internet addicted junkie with no clue how to manage, or train a fighter.
Barring a knockout the fight was unwinnable. Roach was in the corner NOT YOU.
Now sit down **** nugget. Your thread is a failure.

I myself doesn't want the fight to be stopped but for Penaloza's safety I'll say it's a good call by Roach.

Penaloza never won a round since the start and was being battered repeatedly on the 9th. Penaloza was fighting back . . . but 6 punches to 1 ratio in favor of Juan Ma. The way things are looking . . . he doesn't have the power to KO JuanMa in the next three last rounds anymore so . . . good call.

I think that's a tough decision because of the type of fighter Gerry is but I did not think it was wrong to stop it. Maybe he does something great next round, or maybe he gets really hurt, I don't know and no one does but I can't say that makes me lose respect for Freddie.

Lopez was tired yes, but I have doubt that Gerry had enough left to knock him out, but we'll never know. Better to error on the side of caution.

Penalosa was getting beat up but he has tons of heart and was taking it well. He didn't do what Roach said to do, which was to knock him out. Gerry didn't look as good in his final round as he had the round before.

I too wanted to see the fight finish and I was bummed Roach stopped it. There was always a chance that JuanMa got even more tired and Gerry's heart managed a stoppage, a small one, but possible.

Yeah I was bummed but I have to respect Roach, he is the top trainer in boxing right now and deservedly so.

And so from another classic barley veiled Nallege Vs anything even 7 steps of seperation from Pacquiao critique thread, we now learn that if you want a boxing trainer who will let you box yourself into early parkinsons, then give ol' Nall a call.

So how many fights or sparring sessions have you personally worked with Penalosa to gauge where a 60+ fight veteran who turned pro in 1989 has had enough?
