I lost a lot of respect for Roach after last night!!! Froch-J.T, and Green!

I think it was a good stopage. I was hoping Gerry would land that one shot but it was never going to come. I mean, JuanMa landed over 80 power shots in one round alone. I'd be surprised if Gerry does have a couple screws loose after the fight.

I see your view but Gerry wasn't doing enough to change the tide of the fight. As a "friend" who just so happens to be a trainer...it was hard for Roach to allow his fighter to continue when it seemed clear Gerry wouldn't be able to hit hard enough or be active/accurate enough to beat the young lion. I disagree with you saying that Gerry wasn't getting beat up...he was. Gerry is crafty so he was able to avoid many of the head shots but he was getting burtalized to the body. And while Gerry did land some heavy shots...he just wasn't big enough or heavy handed enough to discourage Lopez. I think Roach stopped it for the right reasons and sometimes you have to go around a "FIGHTER" to make that call for the sake of his health. Gerry has a family....he's still young enough and has his faculties. So witht his being his last fight from reports.....I think he didn't need to take anymore punishement from Lopez who seems to be a future star.

If this is true, it may explain the way you think. No fighter wants to be stopped like that. But you need to understand one thing. Freddie Roach did what he needed to do. Freddie lives with neurological problems himself. Pride sometimes take people to the cementery. Penaloza deserves to have a happy life after boxing.

By the way, Lopez said in an interview in Puerto Rico (today) he took it easy during the 9th and was going to do the same during the 10th. Then he was going to close hard in the last two rounds

I think JuanMa rolls to a decision or late round stoppage, but I just don't think the fight should've been stopped in between rounds. Boxing isn't golf or tennis.

Penelosa wasn't in the fight. He was getting heart by accumulation punching and there were spells were JML was getting through with series of clean shots. Penelosa wasn't even listening to Roach in the corner; when Roach said he would stop it he didn't realise what was happening until Roach actually went over to the ref and waved it off. Penelosa had nothing to gain by hanging around, and it would have been more humiliating if he'd had been properly floored. Especially at his age, and with the best days of his career and title-winning hopes long behind him, risking his health just wasn't worth it.

The comparisons with Ali vs. Frazier III aren't legitimate, either; Joe had a decent chance of winning that fight and beating Ali was his life. Risking his health actually had a potential pay-off in that situation. Penelosa had nothing to gain by being beaten down even more.

Ok. You got me there but - the difference between you and me is I know which words use apostrophes, I'm just lazy and don't insert them. You on the other hand erroneously placed an apostrophe on "destroy". Anyways, I'm still ahead of you in terms of grammar buddy. You don't even know the difference between "to" and "too"... good day :hi:

There isn't anything humiliating about a champion being put on the floor first off. Second, there could be a language barrier also even if Penalosa speaks a bit of English. I didn't comment or compare anything concerning Ali-Frazier. I understand your opinion though when you state the underlined. I can respect that.

JuanMa fought Penalosa exactly how you are supposed to fight him, and he did have the size and reach advantage. JuanMa will get better like most champions do. He will see what he did wrong in this fight and correct his mistakes. He fought at a busy pace, and didn't slug against a boxer, and that was what I liked about JuanMa.
