I disagree. When he wanted 50/50 everyone knew who he was because he just beat Tito Trinidad and became undisputed middleweight champion, the second most prestigious title in boxing. And he deserved that split, for stepping up against a bigger man who fought two divisions above him in weight. He needed to be compensated for taking the risk of fighting a top fighter in his first fight at a new weight class, the same way Bernard was willing to give Calzaghe 50/50 now when initially he wanted 60/40.
The argument (which can be found on youtube) is over the purse split and which weight to fight at. Hopkins wanted 50/50 at a catchweight, Jones wanted 60/40 at LH. Two ego's unwilling to shift. Although looking back, I really think Jones should of just gave Hopkins one or the other. The debate was on live television, all he had to say was "Bernard, i'll give you either 50/50 at LH or 60/40 at 168, your choice".
"Who I am, Roy?" "Who I am?" I love when bernard says something to the effect of getting HBO involved to force the fight, and Roy says: "Yeah, you do that Bernard, and you should also take some reaaaaall good English lessons as well"
