it was even for the first 5-6 rounds, and thats an achievement given that he was pulled away everytime he got near PBF for the first half of the fight by firm but fair cortez
I didn't think it was that close. Although I give Hatton a lot of prop to keep Floyd to overwhelm him early. Hatton made it very ugly with all that bull rushing and shoving and of course holding.
Even if they would have been allowed to fight inside longer PBF was owning his ass in there. It was a complete domination. Hatton did not do anything right but chase PBF around and make him fight. It was pretty much like a punching bag being thrown at PBF and he would just move out of the way and unload.
Hatton had his moments...and depending on who you are and who you like, you miight've been able to squeeze him a few rounds depending on your preference of style (I gave Hatton 2 in the first 6) but from round 7 on, it was pretty much the one man show. If Floyd fought all his fights like he did from rounds 7 til the finish, He wouldn't have a single detractor.
Hatton was never in the hunt against floyd. He should think back to his fight with tszyu if he wants a real example of a ref aiding in a victory.
I disagree that Hatton is that good a fighter, but I agree that the fight was indeed quite competitive for the first half or so, before Floyd started to adapt.
Good post. I think Hatton overall gets very under rated on these boards due to his frustrating style of fighting. I would rank him probably a B+/A- also, i think thats pretty accurate. You wouldn't beat the guys he did if you were a bum. Collazo is a tough guy, Urango as well. Not top level, but not easy beats either. Kostya even at the age of 35 was a very formidable opponent. Knocking out Castillo in 4 rounds is a good achievement, regardless of age and weight. Basically, if he was only a B fighter, he would either have lost most of those matches, or not have won it as convincingly.
It was alot closer than the scorecards, thats for sure. Joybois talking about a clinic don't know anything about boxing and probably haven't even seen the fight, they don't care about boxing, they just want to see Floyd as close to naked as possible, this is because they are obsesive homosexuals. You can't really blame a fighter for saying **** like this, if you ever fought you would know that whenever its close you think you are winning, its just the human condition.
It is just boxing talk, What do you expect him to say, I was owned from start to finish in the fight.
Shut the **** up, how many times in your life have you ever used the term "check-hook" before Manny Stewart told you what it ment? I have ran multiple searches on here and no Floyd Joyboys ever used that term until after the fight, they are like little kids, they learn one new word and use it to death.
Sorry guys it wasnt a even match remember i said i love Ricky...and was going for him ... But if your read Rickys article he soudns a tad deluded.. Yes Cortez was overly involved but he was soundly beaten by floyd. Flyd was landing the much cleaner shots from the opening bell and was in charge of the ring with the exception of a 'couple' of times. Furthermore Floyd was equal to Hatton on the inside as well Hatton never out hustled floyd (thats what I was impressed with).....had the fight have gone the distance it would have been a wide UD on the cards.....how many clean punches did you see Hatton land??? Not many....I did see Hattons head getting snaped back more then a few times. Hatton is minimizing the loss (as you would) but he was pretty much owned by Floyd and no shame in that either...but the fact are the facts.
