Which is a good point you make but if that be the case, then why not let the action speak for itself until something is so big that it has to be commented on. Lampley talks way too much. The best commentators let the action do the talking and not vice-versa. That is my big problem with Lampley, he tries too hard to be part of the telecast. He should speak far fewer words IMO.

If that's how you feel, cool. But I feel differently. I like Lampley's drama and extra touches, I don't care if he's always right about a sequence. Overall he's extremely excellent. He also makes it alot more alive and exciting for people less familiar with the sport.

If he gets it wrong technically that's one thing, but generally he has his finger right on the pulse of the action. Again, it just goes to show that it's probably alot easier to see exactly what's occuring on TV from different cutting angles than it is ringside. Judges and commentators alike seem to constantly get it wrong. Jim Lampley is the best in the business regardless, by a hundred miles.

 Yeah, talking and watching a fight is near impossible.

It's not all that hard, in fact, it's not hard at all. Watching a fight from ringside and actually seeing the punches land before your eyes is a prety damn easy thing to call. The fighter's heads slam around right infront of you and tons of sweat off their heads clearly indicating that a man has been hit. He's either a big of an imbecile because he himself has never boxed before, or he actually does have something wrong with his eyes.

Exactly. Not just that but it's a real drama sucker if he goes, "Jirov throwing...but not landing so who cares."

His job first and foremost is to sell things as being dramatic while calling punches.

There's the issue: it's part of his job to amplify the drama. Unfortunately, sometimes when the announcer anticipates drama (like a landed power shot) in his head, he speaks before looking carefully to see if the punch actually landed. Err on the side of action.

Lampley is a pretty good blow by blow guy, and a master with words and setting his counter parts up for comments.

Sometimes he misses here and there. Being a blow by blow guy is not easy. Try it yourself sometime for the heck of it, and you'll see.

I hear ya man. He's a fan just like us...the difference being he gets to sit ringside and tell us what he sees. If he was a radio broadcaster, It'd be different (at least to me) if he was accurate with his calls or not. Fact is all Lampley has to do is say what he sees and call it in a dramatic fashion. Believe me, Accurate calls are the absolute least of his concerns on fight night.

Okay -- here's my biggest pet peeve, and I do not care who does it, it ALWAYS pisses me off. Between rounds, when the camera is honed in on a fighters corner, the corner is miked, and the trainer and fighter are talking, the commentator needs to SHUT THE **** UP:fire
