You mean like Haye had no problems taking tune-ups with Ruiz and Harrison after taking the belt from Valuev? Remember back in 2009 the notion was that Haye just wanted to grab the belt from Valuev so the "Klitschkos treat him with respect at the negotiating table. If they offer 50/50 Haye will fight them right after Valuev". I mean Haye risked losing to Ruiz and Harrison as well didn't he, thus potentially derailing a big unification fight? :deal
I said the same thing when Haye made the choice to fight Harrison instead of either brother. Taking "just one more interim" fight is always a risk, since fluke losses that weren't meant to happen really are not that rare of an occurrence in boxing history.
he was going to fight 3 times in 2010, but got hurt, 2009, that bone head hayes pushed the fight back till june, this is why i think wlad is fighting in april, as he wanted to do in 2009, you got to remember, wlad makes big money every fight, no doubt he wants 3 times a year, as he did in 2008, 9 times he defended his belt sence the middle of 2006 when he gained the title, so by july, that will be 11 defended in 5 years, that is not bad. keep also in mind HBO screwed with him alot, giving an taking away time slots, in late 2009 he was to fight again, but they were playing games, an povekin pulled out of talks
i think the worst thiing about this is that people are talking like its a tragedy for a fighter to fight twice in the first 6 months of a year? i mean come on half the time ye bitchin about fighters not fighting enough
He is you ****ing moron! Have you not seen him fight before? Wlad could have fought Haye but it seems he's intent on letting a fight with Derek Chisora get in the way of negotiations. Why is a match up with a relative novice (which should be a one sided beat down) so important to Wlad? There's something fishing going on with that Klitschko fella!
Wlad has ALWAYS been outspoken about wanting to be as active as possible. First HBO was ****ing him around on his dates, then threw him on the shelf saying that they didn't have any more budget for him that year... second... LAST TIME that Haye and Wlad negotiated a fight, Haye got Wlad to agree to sitting on the shelf for half a year to wait for a fight with him.... Wlad agreed... Haye pulled out. Wlad also just suffered an injury which is why it wasn't 7 times.... and I already pointed out what would be more. So, what we have here is a situation where Wlad has two TV dates at his disposal. He wants to use them both and fight twice in a short amount of time. Why on earth should he not? If he somehow loses to Chisora... then I guess we shouldn't be too upset about not seeing him fight Haye. Haye can then persue his fellow countryman Chisora for a big showdown. However, we all know this wouldn't happen. Wlad will pound on Chisora, work off his rust, stay in shape, go right back into champ and fight Haye afterward. BTW... don't forget that Wlad will also be picking up a few mil for his fight against Chisora too... AND drumming up even more interest with casual boxing fans in the UK.
Didn't seem that way when they were scheduled to fight last time. It isn't like England is just swarming with world title challengers every week. When someone from the UK gets a shot at the true Heavyweight Champion... people in the UK tend to notice.
Chisora-Wlad was attached to Warren's Brit card and the Khan-Maidana fight. People know Haye, they don't know Chisora. I doubt Chisora-Wlad would even be a standalone PPV and if so, it's gonna have poor sales. Khan and Haye are the only people over here with a name.
I didn't say that he was as popular as Haye and Khan. However, Haye couldn't even sell out small arena's before he started mouthing off about Wlad. Now, he is a superstar over there. Same will go for Chisora... he won't have the chance to become a superstar because he is actually fighting Wlad... but he will DEFINITELY be noticed. You guys must have the shittiest boxing fans in the world if people don't even know a guy who is about to challenge for the World Heavyweight Title. Especially when the guy just knocked out another well known fighter over there in Danny Williams. I think that you are really underselling how well known Chisora is... he is widely regarded as the #2 rated heavyweight in the UK behind Haye. Not saying he is a household name... but he is known by boxing fans in the UK. And will fans will certainly gain even more interest in Wlad vs Haye after watching Wlad vs Chisora.
Even if he's widely regarded as the #2 heavyweight over here he gets little to no exposure. He didn't get any recognition for his win over a shot Williams and his best win is probably over Sexton - who's best known for his fights with Rogan. Chisora hasn't headlined any cards and is in the same category as the Olympians. But even then they overshadow him, DeGale has a gold medal and seems to be Warren's main star at the moment. Our fans are terrible. You probably have more exposure over here than Froch and I'm not exaggerating that. Froch is arguably our most entertaining fighter, but he has no love from Sky. Boxing doesn't get much exposure in the media over here.
No you are incorrect on that. Sure he is possibly the no 2 British HW , but that doesnt mean a whole lot, one guy is a world class fighter. Im pretty sure that Michael Sprott was at one poin the no 2 british heavyweight behind...Lennox Lewis See hwo that works, I wonder who the no 3 Ukranian HW after klits are ? No one cares. --- As for small areas . Haye was making well over a million dollars in the o2 arena as a cruiserweight
They care when they are the challenger for the World Heavyweight Title. They certainly did when Danny Williams fought Vitali.
