leaves his body wide open for body shots...Please , before commenting check out most if not ALL of PBF's footage and how when an opponent is on offense he leaves his body completely exposed for body shots... My question is will Sugar expose this "flaw" in PBF's vaunted defense ? :?
He uses the shoulder roll, philly shell, plus he twists and turns all in unison. He's not open for much.
He doesn't leave himself open to body shots. He uses his arms/elbows to cover his body and his shoulder to deflect right hands, it's a common technique. The trick is to put the right punches together to create openings. A good jab, followed by some body shots, finished off with a right hand upstairs will find it's mark. If you're a southpaw, you'll have a much easier time. Straight left hands to the face and body will land, as will the right hook.
I'm just looking @ some footage and what I can recollect from recent fights and you can see him leaving his body, particularly liver shots open. Will Shane dine ?
He leaves an opening sometimes, but he keeps a really tight shell. The way to break it is to throw the correct combinations. You gotta mix up your combos to the head and body and use feints. Shane's not a great technical boxer, so he's gonna have a lot of trouble against Floyd.
When he is in full shell he is complety protected. Most boxers who use the phillyshell hold their left hand somewhat in front of them making it easier to jab. Mayweather holds his across his body. The advantage is that it gives him more protection. The disadvantage is that it makes throwing the jab more awkward.
Yup, if he defends like that for the majority of the fight with Shane, he loses on Sugar's activity level. Still got Floyd winnning, not 100% though.
The liver shots are not open. It looks like it is , but it is not. Mayweather counters left hands to the body with short counters with his right hand. right hands to the body is where mayweather is weak. fighters usually punch at his head when he rolls. right hands to the chest are wide open. when he leans back against the ropes with a high guard , his entire midsection is open to straight body punches. When mayweather does this; fighters usually fall in with wild hooks.
I don't think he leaves himself open much at all. You'll see when Mosley can't find anything to hit all night long.
No, I agree, I don't see Sugar winning but I can't say it with 100% accuracy. I just look @ the JMM fight and I see Floyd not open up @ all versus a fighter who : A) Could NOT hurt him @ anytime during his pro career. B) A fighter who had never fought in this weight class. and C)Some of JMM's punches, not many, landed flush although he really had nothing on them. I really don't know which makes this fight, easily, a must see.
Not nesacearly. Floyd Mayweather is fast enough that he can still throw a good jab when he needs to. It is Shane Mosley's best hope. I think it will likely catch up to him in about five years when most of his natural speed starts to go, espicaly if he goes up to 154 or 160.
