    A-freakin' Men.

Rocky you are one lucky guy. Very envious, LaMotta is one of my favorites. A cagey swarmer, that could fight on the front foot almost as well as the back foot. Great skills, top-notch stamina, toughness, chin, and determination. Great story.

Know Jake since his early days in the ring 'n afterward in showbiz. To see him now as a self-deprecating elder statesman is as unlikely as a tiger turning into a tabby.

..great stuff..and fine reporting. jake said when he fought satterfied the latter actually put bumps on his head.

tjhat was kind if an historic night, by the way. it was the first time lights were ever used at wrigley field in chicago...well before the introduction of night baseball games there.

i suppose jake mentioned that he did knock satterfield out. knocked him through the ropes, though i don't know if that's when the knockout happened.

just occurred to me...is jake the oldest living undisputed world champion?

i bet he could still turn nasty too if you said the wrong thing to him.
i have a picture in my head of him being nobodys fool even at nearly 90....wouldnt mince his words like.

Awesome! I envy you a bit.

That´s actually my way of thinking too and why I don´t think that despite the use of science in training today, it isn´t superior to back then.

    Coming from you that´s strange.

A thinking that really should be applied more IMO.

John, I can only tell you the same thing I tell my grandpa everytime: write your memoirs! There would be plenty of people like me who´d love to read those.

Yeah funny you should say that - he showed me the 3 lumps that he had from Bob Satterfield - he talked about Satterfield with a huge amount of respect - said he coulda knocked out anyone really - Lamotta was great to talk to - seemed not so much to want to big himself up - but could talk all day about other guys from the era.

That was one I asked his Fiance when I was taking to her - she said they always go to the golden gloves - and they were going to a fight in New Jersey when they got back to the states I think aswell

Yeah he had a bit of a booming voice to when he had a strong opinion on something haha - I said to myself before I went - do not bring up certain touchy subjects with him to be on the safe side - and this other lad that came - (who's a fighter too - Mick McGarr) brought up one of them at one point (the dive against Fox :patsch) I could tell he was getting a bit twitchy then but you could tell the disdain he had for the mob - the lad told Jake he had huge respect for the way he stood up against the mob at the Kefauver thing - on a side note Mick Mcgarr is fighting in nottingham soon - i'll look out for him - real nice guy he was - a real credit to himself
