Went down South St. for a walk with my nephew and my girl, while parking I saw Nazim talking to Rock Allen (wtf happened to him?). Anyways I walk up to them and say hello and introduce myself and my nephew (my girl was getting water ice). I introduce him to my nephew as one of the greatest boxing trainers in the world today. My nephew innocently shrugged it off (he is 9), but Nazim was friendly so i asked him what he thought about the Cotto/Clottey fight. He says "It went how I expected." He said it was really close in his eyes with a very slight edge to Clottey. He said a draw would have been a just decision but those are rare in such high caliber fights. He also said that noone will ever win a close decision to Cotto at MSG. To beat Cotto in MSG you either have to knock him out or win decisively. I asked him if he thought Cotto would have fared better if not for that cut, and he said of course but those things happen in fights, you have to be prepared for whatever. He said Cotto did show a lot of heart for continuing when he probably would have won on points if there was an early stoppage. I wanted to continue talking to him but I could tell my time was winding down, so I wished him the best, and he says if I ever see him again, don't hesitate to speak. CLASSY GUY!:good Oh, by the way, i had Cotto 114-113
Every single word of Nazim is absolute truth. He saw the fights just like I did so I'm not dumb afterall. Congratulations for your luck!
Nazim is a great trainer. That said, being a great trainer doesn't make him a great judge. But he is entitled to his opinion, which is probably more respected than mine. I saw Cotto winning. When you are challenging a champion you HAVE TO either knock him out or win CONVINCINGLY. Not matter who he is or the location of the fight. Clottey didn't do that.
..........it went exactly how he thought it would go? So he knew cotto would have to fight most the fight with that big cut and blood pouring into hes eye:good:goodimpressive:good:good
Actually a vacant belt holder, but why split hairs... Clottey should have understood that to win, he needed to make the fight. He did for brief stretches, but not long enough to win in a hostile environment.
Don't worry, as soon as you explain this to Nazim, he'll change his heart and say: "What the hell was I thinking? Cotto won after all. Teach me Juan Manuel Lopez fan"
