He has fought Jones, Allen (three times in fact), Mercado and Pascal and all were convincingly beaten in subsequent rematches. The only stain on his mark is Taylor and the decision on that rematch was an unpopular one as well. Basically, the closest that comes to the Dawson fight is Robert Allen who was giving BHop a good fight until he was accidentally pushed off the ring, claimed to be unable to continue yet won the rematch without a doubt. Had Hopkins been only 32, I would've said it's an easy win for him. But age might really be a factor now. He might win, but it's not going to be easy. War BHop
That is true, but there is no scientific basis whatsoever to say that past history in rematches has anything at all to do with each new rematch. It's about the match-up itself, not either guy's rematch history.
I know where you coming from buddy. I just think there are certain fighter who have time and again showed up in rematches like a different monsters. Azumah Nelson and Joe Louis to name a few.
LOL. Only style matchup that comes close to relating to this one is Taylor a faster, stronger younger, better fighter and Hopkins fought the same way he did in the 2nd as the 1st. He had no answers.
You are not wrong, knocked down two times at high altitude in South America and under army threats and still had a draw with Mercado, then beat him to win the IBF MW title same thing now in Montreal with Pascal to win the WBC LHWT title. Went thru the ropes against Allen and then stopped him in the corner. Well he fought him a third time but he doesn't like number 3 but that's up to him, there have been good trilogies. Echols was beaten twice. The only thing that should have happened and didn't was Taylor but I am sure he should have won that rematch.
They didn't really fight, it's not really a "rematch". If anything, it showed that Hopkins knew he was in for a tough night and bitched out for a REASON. There is a REASON why Hopkins avoided Dawson for a few years. He knows Dawson poses a style problem. And he's also 47. I'll be shocked if Hopkins pulls it out.
Stylistically, Hopkins is a nightmare for most and Dawson is no exception to the rule or else he wouldn't have tackled him in ROUND 2 but I agree Dawson is a difficult guy to deal with if you don't fight smarter than him. Oh and btw, I don't consider this one a rematch or Roy Jones a rematch either for two different reasons. There was almost no first fight with these two and 17 years is way too long for a proper rematch, should have happened earlier...
