Agreed. DREAM events arent frequent but then again neither was PRIDE. Makes it that much more exclusive. Except DREAM barely have a handful of names. Personally i think MMA should go back to the old format. Whereby guys stuck to their strengths. Thats what made PRIDE and the early UFC's so interesting as well as making ATG's out of those fighters who stuck to their bread and butter. Personally i think them days are gone and PRIDE's legend will only continue to grow and grow as the years go by.
Those days are gone. It is ridiculous to tell fighters that you would prefer them to be more incomplete for your entertainment. Fighters want to win and having more than one skill helps to win.
When the UFC bought Pride and didn't really showcase the talent i missed pride. Now the UFC has amazing shows, even the under cards are good, but I still don't like the WWF vibe i pick up from the UFC and the commentators make me watch the fights with mute.. saying that the shows are good. Strikeforce only have a few shows a year but i like the way they do things. WEC puts on some of the best shows out there. Dream is comming back into its own and lets be honest the reason why people loved Pride was the massive spectacle, no matter if it took 4 months to arrange a awsome card. Now Sengoku, M1 and small organisations are popping up all over the place.... This is the first time ever I don't miss pride.
Nog beat Couture because he was a better BOXER, not because he stuck to Jujitsu. Fedor wins fights standing and with his great submissions. Wanderlei is a BJJ black belt. You are putting complete multi-dimensional fighters into simple categories as if they didn't have a variety of skills. Basically, if you want to say you wish that fighters only had one strong suit and were forced to use that to win you shouldn't use multi-dimensional fighters with many strengths as examples.
Yeah because Nog is well known for his striking. Same as Wandy's well known for his audacious black belt and BJJ skills. As for Fedor yup he's definitly a striker...
Compared to what? You kidding? Shogun.. just maybe.. Wandy? No way. He had a decent sub defense but thats where it ended. His black belt was extremely flattering.
From everything I have heard he has a good gaurd which is hard to very hard to pass, I think his JJ is just underrated because he does not use it very much.
It can be hardly underrated as we never saw it much in a PRIDE ring. I could count on one hand the amount of times iv seen Wandy pull guard. Matter of fact has he ever even submitted anyone let alone gone for a sub?!?!
Nog's striking won him the fight and if he couldn't have outboxed Randy he would have probably lost because it is doubtful he was going to take Randy down. Fedor KOd Rogers and Arlovski standing, and put Sylvia on the ground to finish with a sub by using strikes, there are plenty of instances of Fedor winning fights because of his striking. Your stupid laughing emoticon doesn't make you right, these are complete fighters we are talking about that use their complete arsenal of skills to win fights. You wanna talk about how you wish it were the old days when people "stuck to their strengths." Kongo. Leites. Lesnar. Striking. Ju-jitsu. Wrestling. There are fighters like you describe but Fedor isn't one of them unless you consider "fighting" his specialty.
He does not need to pull guard to end up in guard, I don't remember seeing his guard passed in mma after a TD. Also off the top of my head he went for an armbar on Rampage and had one locked up almost against Fujita.
Yeah but to toss a ref out of the way and go after a guy with a broke arm? Not entirely sure what the beef was about. Then again both Randleman and Coleman were the same. Those guys were fighting on natural instinct and gear alone.
