I miss the Super 6

    Still think it's too long for a 'tournament'. Besides, take out the length and it still leaves too many injuries and alternates. I mean, come on...Allan Green.

    Injuries soured a lot of fans on it, but the truth is that it gave us way more quality matches than we would have ever seen from those guys had the Super Six not happened. And it did what it set out to; prove the #1 guy in the division and turn him in to a relative star (in this case with appreciation, not a financial star).

    I just don't see if your a true boxing fan, how you could have this opinion. Preferably, I would have preferred it was dragged out as long as possible, because you get more quality fights. The tournament guaranteed the each fighter would have 2 quality matches each year, which is more important than having a winner crown.What exactly is the rush to crown the winner?

    In today's climate
    1)It's not the fighters nowadays actually try to unify anyway.
    2) With fighters taking 1-2 fights a year, everything takes long to get done.

    Do you actually prefer how boxing normally is, which is a fighter's team cherry picking their guys opponents until a big payday comes along?

    Some of these guys on here when the tournament was going on where like "I just want this tournament over so we can get a winner." It's like people today are impatient & did not appreciate what was actually going on at the time.

    Given that all the fights were basically pre arranged i can't understand why it took 6 months between each fight taking place.
    Great idea but it just didn't pan out. Took too long, seemed to drag on forever. There were too many drop outs, and replacements. Started off well but finished on a limp id say.
    And it was seemingly biased for Ward.

    Like i said it was a quality idea but too many organisational flaws in it.

    Well, actually around 2 1/2 years, even longer if you counted up the "build-up/showcase" fights that preceeded the actual tournament

    aka Ward vs Pudwill, while in the same broadcasting it was Kessler vs Perdomo

    The tournament itself was borrowed off of the World Cup Soccer tournament, where teams were specifically lined up against each other in a round-robin style and done in "stages", where teams accrue points through wins or ties. Fighters accrued points through wins and an extra point w/ KO. At the end of the stages, the top 4 fighters who accumulated the most points enter in single-elimination brackets, like World Cup soccer.

    Great concept, only turned out to be the longest tournament and Showtime just couldnt promo it effectively between such lengthy waits for fights.... and i dont think they expected such a high drop-out ratio. Once it got to the single bracketing, it was basically down to "who was left standing" lol.....

    1) Fighters only fight once or twice a year
    2) Fighters drop out of fights due to injuries all the time
    3) They underestimated Ward during negotiations for the tournament. That's on the promoters. They all believed he was green

    However if you weren't feeling the tournament, thats fine but my question is, do you prefer the current format of boxing over the super 6 tournament?
