Ok here is the situation: When I was 8 I suffered a head injury, which causes me to experience vertigo symptoms to this day (Im 21). My doctor just told me yesterday that he really does not want me to box, because my injury caused some kind of neuralogical imbalance, and I would be more prone to things like memory loss, decreased visioon, and other neuralogical problems. Its hard, because I REALLY want to persue a career in boxing. What do you guys thing? Any advice?

You only have one brain. If you really love boxing, I'd encourage you to find another way to be involved. Coach, official etc.

Thanks man, I also have the attitude I'll do what I want, but I also am aware of that "It wont happen to me" syndrome. Im sure Ali, Meldric Taylor, Riddic Bowe and the like didnt think they would end up the way they are

Whats more important to you, boxing or being able to see? Telling you to go for it would be idiotic. If you are that dumb to risk it go ahead.

Teddy Atlas had to make the choice not to box because of health reasons. Bottom line is, it's your brain. Think about that for a few minutes. Your brain. It's not a bum shoulder or a bad knee. It's your brain.

You could try another combat sport, like jui jitsu or something.

That's the worst advice I've ever read on this forum, bar none.

don't forget, it's kind of hard to fight if you can't breath

No one that cared about you would let you do it. There are plenty of gyms that will allow you to learn the sport and do the boxing exercises without the sparring (roadwork, padwork, bagwork, jump-rope, etc). Essentially you end up learning to be the best boxer you can be, without the actual sparring or fighting. This is the best alternative that you should pursue. It can still turn into a successful hobby, just not a career. If you want to be even more involved after that, look to become a coach like Amy said.
