I now have Ward 33-3, he doesn't belong in the same category as Calzaghe

Ha2x Nice try but no, we all know what happened when the best in the ole USA travelled and got his behind spanked. I have never seen a more definitive ruined in the history of boxing.

Knowing your tastes and history a little, one could be forgiven for misreading something into your comments, it could easily be interpreted as a slight on Calzage.

That being said if you really think those official judges scores reflect the true nature of how either one of those matches played out, either you've never seen those matches, or you've been bitten by several Zika carrying mosquitos yourself.

    Would Joe have beaten Kovalev?

Even if you think Ward lost to Kov, he fought a super close fight.

Joe would have been KO'd or lost wide.

Maybe, maybe not. Joe was never a proper light heavy.

I think Calzaghe would have won wide against either.
When you watch that fight although they are arguably the best today they look slow compared to fighters like Calzaghe, Jones etc.
I thought Kovalev was a clear not close winner against Ward. Not that that means anything. the thing that does surprise me and I think it is because of the bad round Ward had in round 2 against Kovalev is how people feel Ward won round 3. I only really saw a jab of note from Ward with Kovalev to me looking to have landed more, looked to me more effective and was making Ward back up in that round in my opinion yet so many scored that round for Ward

no i've not heard anyone claim that the best USA were fortysomethings, not ever, not in any athletic sport, across the history of the USA.

except, the sole exception....when it comes to joe cowardzaghe of course.

Calzaghe boxes Wards face in. WAY too smart for Ward and would overwhelm him. Ward doesn't have the power to keep Joe honest enough not to throw his usual 800-1000 punches. Calzaghe UD

Ward's close win over Kovalev all alone is better than everything Calzaghe has done in his laughable career. If there's one thing Calzaghe will be remembered for, then it's comedy. The way he rolled on the floor in tears of disbelief for beating someone with 20 professional fights when he had over 40 was one of the funniest moments in Boxing history.

NO, thats not far enough - Ward beating Kessler in his first ever title fight was better than anything calzaghe did in his 11 years of title fighting.
