I personally think George Foreman's comeback was a superior effort to Larry Holmes'

Let's swap things around a bit. Imagine the 90's versions of George and Larry fighting each other's comeback opponents. I'm concentrating on the years of 1991-95,as after that both guys were over their SECOND hills ! Common opponent was a prime Evander Holyfield. George and Larry gave gallant losing efforts, where they were clearly outpointed, but certainly not dominated. Now put Larry in with Tommy Morrisson and Michael Moorer. I see Larry having his moments against both, especially with that still effective jab,but going down on points. George would narrowly lose to McCall, and would outpoint Mercer. So you see, there would still be little to split them.

I disagree. Larry's style would allow him to be more competitive with the likes of Axel Shultz or Tommy Morrison and Michael Moorer. Remember George won about 2 rounds against Moorer. He did knock him out, but I could see Moorer making it the distance against Holmes in a close competitive fight. Not sure who wins that one, but Im quite sure he kicks Morrisons butt.

Yeah but his style was far more productive against younger faster opponents. He still had a decent jab and ok footwork to compete. He was neve shut out over the course of a fight against any opponent. George was on several occassions against fighters who were not expected to fight him the way they did. In other words, because he was slow and predictable, they could fight in a style they werent comfortable with. Morrison being the best example.

I'm glad it never happened in the late 90's. Anytime between 1992-95,they'd have given us an entertaining fight between two stll good veterans, but any later,it would have been a joke.
