Hopkins is still an excellent fighter and a known spoiler. To have watched his recent fights with Taylor and Wright in particular then there would be no reason to expect anything different. His game is about stopping the other guy's game. Even if you can overcome that then it's hardly going to be pretty. If anyone thought Calzaghe would obliterate Bernard Hopkins they were stupid. Too tough and talented to let that happen to himself.

I think fight wise it wasn't too impressive....BUT what WAS impressive was that Calzaghe was able to do two things.

1-He was able to brawl with Hopkins and NOT look completely outclassed.

2-He was able to at times pull Bernard into his fight. He managed to make the Executioner uncomfortable.

Yah, a bit. Depends on her mood.

She reads ESB now....just to see what I am always talking about. Even has a screename.

Wasn't impressed by Calzaghe at all. I sincerely want to give Hopkins this fight at the moment but I'll give Calzaghe a close one. Maybe when I rewatch the fight I'll see it just a tad more clearly for Calzaghe, but nevertheless.. this fight is a bigger credit to Hopkins than it is to Calzaghe.

Brawl? More like flurry. And this doesn't impress me given Bernard's age and inability to fight at this pace.

He should be able to pull Bernard into his fight. What happened to his jab? His angles? His punches in bunches? If he would have utilized a little more lateral movement Bernard wouldn't have been able to clinch as much. He should have been stepping around Bernard, pivoting off both feet and doing what he does best. This isn't to say that he would have looked great, because nobody really does against Nard, but to be honest I thought he was saved by Bernard's age in there.

    Yup, that was her...

Of course, we have the same IP (3 computers in the house) and if she ever posts, I'll never be able to convince anyone it wasn't me. She was reading the thread that day someone started about porn stars. I didn't know she had a screename until 2 days later. Said she only signed up for one because apparently you can't read all the posts as a visitor. She doesn't know my password so she got her own.

I thought Taylor actually looked better than Calzaghe did, but it's been awhile so maybe I'll have to rewatch them. The point is though that everyone will rank Joe above Taylor and Wright -- two very good boxers in their own right but not ATG's in my opinion -- and while I wasn't expecting a blow out from Calzaghe, I thought he would have fared better.

Are you saying that some of the young guys out there have a good chance to beat Calzaghe?

I have used pics of her as my avatar for a long time now. But lets not take away from ACB's thread discussing this. Big fight tonight....what did you think of it?

It was a good fight but Bernard could have done more. At 43 years of age Bernard has to fight like this or he'd run out of gas late in fights.

I want to watch the fight again. One of two things- either I overated Joe or it was an off night. A lot of young fighters don't have the tricks that Bernard has. At this point I would favor Dawson against Joe.

YOU NOOBS :patsch Bernard makes everyone look like ****, thats what he does, thats his whole game plan. Once he throws a guy off his rythm, thats when he scores. Havent any of you watched any of his fights before?? :bart

Bernard has never lost to or had any trouble with southpaws, in fact, he has always done better against them than orthodox fighters.
