You don't think this era of HW's are a bit weak in terms of their "SKILL Level"? :think Talented yes....but lacking many skills that other generations of HW's had are pretty clear in my opinion. It's not about the US not being on top b/c the US hasn't been on top in the HW division for a while. Not since the early to Mid 90's and even then it was spotted with international talent who had the skills to match the talent.

Today we see SUPER HW's who don't have a lot of skills...we have smaller, less talented HW's who don't have the skills the HW division once had. And we have BIG HW's dominating the sport based on Size, talent, strength and power....not a bucket load of skills.

The Skills of the HW's have diminished quite a bit over the last 15 yrs. Which is why we see OLD HW's from back in the day doing pretty decently....James Toney was giving fits to top HW's just within the last 4 yrs b/c he brought the division something it sorely lacked...SKILLS. He couldn't have competted against the Bowe's, LL's and Tyson's when they were on top. ****.....JT couldn't have competed agaisnt the Tony Tuckers of the the HW division.

Wald and Vit are the Best of today's era of HW's. No question. They do have skills but not as much as the guys who came before them. They are two of the most PHSYICALLY gifted and blessed HW's ever and in my opinion that is why they are legitimately the best today in the HW ranks. But it's not weak b/c the HW's are not dominated by Americans...its weak b/c there is a lack of skills in a "so,so" talanted HW era.

Chambers actually has skills! And yea...the weight doesn't matter if you are operating with the skills to allow you to capitolize on the mistakes and lack of skills of your larger opponent. But as a whole....the HW division doesn't have a lot of skilled or talented HW's to beat the TWO Klits who are amazing specimen physically and talent wise. They do have decent skills and are pretty coordinated for men their size. I don't see any of the HW's being a huge problem for them. Chambers maybe if his skills are as good as they looked this past weekend.

Tell us about the technical skills of Tony Galento, the accuracy and straight punches of George Foreman, the variety and multi dimensions of Earnie Shavers. While you're at it tell us about the footwork of Joe Louis who Emanuel Steward said struggled with clever movers, tell us about the boxing skillset of Marciano and Dempsey.

Every era of HWT contenders has their strengths and weaknesses. Each fighter was good enough to get to top 10 and that's an incredible achievement, and each fighter was just not quite good enough to rule in his era. No all time great champ was perfect either. All eras are the same really, but perceptions, nostalgia and time distort that simple truth. Thems were duh days,

Joe Louis had excellent footwork when it was necessary.

Yes, he struggled against Jersey Joe Walcott, on par with Ali or very close as the greatest mover in history, but he still found a way to knock him out.

And saying that Marciano or Dempsey had a limited skillset shows that you have a very limited KNOWLEDGE of the sport or what constitutes as skill.

To put Brewster, Ibragimov, Austin, Thompson, Brock in the same sentence as "weak" is ridiculous. These guys are all excellent successful fighters. My point is that the pugilistic skills of Marciano and Dempsey were not very aesthetically impressive, they were more tremendous fighters/brawlers with incredible fortitude and determination and fury. The skill level of today's HWT contenders matches up to any era of contenders.

    EddieChambers/Jimmy Young, Tex Cobb/Arreola, Scott Frank/Frans Botha, Leroy Jones/Kirk Johnson, Gerry Cooney/Tony Thompson, Ron Lyle/Hasim Rahman, Galento/Povetkin.

Well Fast Eddie has not hit his high note yet. He obviously is an improving young fighter with potential. He showed a lot in the early rounds with Povetkin. Fast Eddie has a big upside possibly. So do Povetkin, Boytsov, Arreola, Haye too.

Another falsehood is people think the HWT contedners of this era have all flatlined and won't improve. That's nonsense. Many Fighters improve each fight.

I think that this era has been unfairly labeled as weak for many reasons, including nationalism. But, in comparison to other era's it is weak due to it's lack of depth. It's top two fighters in the Klit brothers rank up there with the best, but the fighters from #4 through #15 over the past decade have been weaker than most era's.

The point that makes this most clear is that Valuev has been considered the #3 to #5 HW over the past few years and he would not be top ten in most era's. To argue that point would make someone look foolish. It also doesn't help that the most dominate HW's of this era have multiple loses. Most casual fans don't take the HW champ seriously if he has multiple loses, especially TKO loses at that.

Also, one of the Klits had a chance to take the mantle from "the Man", and failed. This doesn't help the perception of the current era being weak when the guy on top failed to beat an old version of the previous era's champ.

It is a weaker era pound for pound than the 70's, 80's and early 90's.. But i do beleive it could pick its feet up again soon. The only reason that the Klitschkos are the champs largly is because of thier dimensions and safety first approach.. I do like Chambers and the smaller gusy because they show me more heart than many of the larger giant sized guys......... and will take on all comers..
