Anotehr reason there are so few big name threats to Klitschko to excited about is because Lewis kept everyone down. Lewis dominated and bludgeoned every one from devloping and building into something special. Lewis bashed everyone's confidence, then Vitali and Wladimir came along and continued to bash everyone. It's been an elite three man domination by Kings Lewis and the Kltischkos, the rest were subdued into peon status and they never had a chance to rise above it.

There is a ton of talent out there, it just that they all of sudden become "bums" to the detractors once one of the K bro's beat them. Toney Thompson is so underrated it insane. He'd have given any of the all time greats a hard time. Austin on the other hand kinda blows hot and cold.

Tony Thompson is extremely underrated, underappreciated, and unknown in this era of HWT boxing getting only fringe coverage from mainstream sport media. Agree, T Thompson would be a big problem for a lot of champs from history, he gave a tremendous effort vs. Wladimir. Too bad he's in his mid 30's now and too bad he didn't start boxing earlier.

Hayefaker would never ever fight Tony THompson.

:patsch You got to be kidding me, the guy has no power and throws punches off-balance. He reminds me of TOS without the power. Thompson's best win of his career was over Luan Krasniqi, and not even the prime version Brewster knocked out back in late 05. He was undefeated for 6 and a half years because he fought nobodies inbetween that time. Just like Tye Fields and Brian Nielson did, just make their record impressive enough to get a big match, and when they finally do they get knocked out and exposed for what they really are.

How can you say it's not a weak era if the only BIG HW fight is two brothers fighting (will never be done).

No other HW matchup will generate bigtime PPV numbers and $20+ million revenue.

There are no big hw matchups out there. When was the last hw event (or when will the next one be) that attracted the interest of general public worldwide (note: germany != world. UK != world. USA != world. germany+UK+US comes close though)? Yep, it's that dry.

count the # of hof'er hw's currently fighting... or even have hof potential

vs the other divisions... hw division will probably rank last

    Nice try WWM:lol:

Okay you get what you wanted, James Toney, Evander Holyfield:lol: Wlad could slaughter the pig and humiliate the senior citizen Evander.

These two are not relevent at this point, they are good gate keepers for contenders etc thou.

Remove the 'US' bit from that and you're be right.

Wlad and Vitali are hardly having desperate fights for their very lives against fighters from outside the US either. It's lack of competition all round.

Anyway, we can talk about lack of skill or fighters out of shape or whatever...really, it's the lack of characters which has hurt this era the most. The 90s scene for example was a very varied and unpredictable era with plenty of wild characters.

In this era there have been too many guys floating around, even contenders, that don't look like heavyweight champions - they look like someone you'd see emptying your bins or the janitor at the local school. So I think people find guys like that hard to root for.

I am actually optimistic about the next decade, though. Some fighters coming up not just with ability, but marketable and interesting personalities. That's what draws the casual audience, not (horrible to say this I know) robots and Average Joes.

Holyfield's my dad's age for christ sake. I remember watching the 3rd Bowe fight and everyone was saying how past it Holyfield was and that he should hang em up, and that was nearly 15 years ago back in 95. That would be alot worse than even when Ali fought Holmes.

Toney is not much better, the guy is not even a natural Heavyweight. And he's well past his prime.

:-( Holyfield would be WBA champ had he fought over here despite being shot for nearly 10 yrs, Valuev a top 5 guy today is total garbage.
