Unkind words from one who doesn't even realise Joe Calzaghe is the BOAT (Best of all Time) are unlikely to offend anyone mate.

Didnt pay much attention to the fight. 2 no skilled fighters really didnt interest me. Although Cotto's performance that same night was brilliant.

    Agreed

Quintana impressed me as well, even in defeat. I think he would beat both Margarito and Clottey.

Yeah, he's a very good fighter. Many say it was a no contest that night, but he was giving Cotto a good fight.

Quintana has solid fundamentals, a very nice jab, great lateral movement, and a high workrate. He's slick too and tough to hit. He's got underrated speed as well.

I could see a straight forward, somewhat basic pressure fighter like Margarito having a tough time hitting him because of the defense and the movement and I could see Clottey getting outboxed.

He's my sleeper in the welterweight division, but I have a feeling Williams will outwork him and I don't see Quintana hurting Williams.

Margarito won that darn fight. I can't believe how much some of you people hate this guy just because of Arum's hype machine and wanting to fight Floyd.

Margarito won that fight easily 116-112 although the 118 card might have been a little wide. The only people that think he lost or should have been scored a draw are clearly Floyd nuthuggers as you can ascertain from a recent post&poll concerning identical subject matter located here:

Just look at the voters who scored it a victory for Clottey or a draw and you'll automatically know what I mean. It's no coincidence that they are all Margo critics and/or big Mayweather lovers so anything they say can be basically taken with a grain of salt and ignored.

No more no less, actually it beggars belief that people actually believe in what they are sayin - "I thought I was in control of the fight until I hurt my hand" Joshua Clottey on breaking the knuckle on the index finger of his left hand when he landed a jab to Margarito's head in the fourth round... So, even Clottey acknowledges that he controlled 4 rounds and Margarito 8 rounds and that makes it 116-112 Margo ( judges John Stewart and Paul Venti had it 116-112)... And since Margo demands this and that, from now on, I demand a lie detector apparatus on ESB Forum. Stop snitchin, stop lyin G-UNOT!

i thought Clottey gassed out big time in the 2nd half of the fight and I gave a lot of those rounds at the end to Margo just off pure aggression and punch output. I never re watched it but I had Margo winning by a couple rounds.

I think it's equally ridiculous to say Margo himself won more than two or three rounds "clear cut" beyond the shadow of a doubt. But hey, this beloved sport of ours is notoriously open to interpretation, that's why conversations like this take place every day. Everyone has their system and thinks their criteria are more ironclad and unimpeachable than anyone else's. Regardless, this ended up being a close fight - even allowing for a wide range of subjectivity in scoring criteria I don't see how any clear-headed person could disagree that this was close enough that a draw wouldn't have been out of the question (whether or not they themselves had edged it a point or two in one guy's favor). A 118-109 virtual shutout for Margarito is INSANE. Claiming the 8-4 victory from the other judges' cards (frequently cited as more or less the unanimous fan scoring) as the correct, black-and-white, no-second-guess-required result - is less ridiculous than 118-109, but still ridiculous nonetheless.
