I re-watched Joshua vs Whyte

It was a far tougher closer fight than many would have you think. Its easy to get caught up in watching Joshuas power when he punches but Whyte was very competitive.
I recall hearing Whyte had an injury going into that fight.

Although Joshua would rightfully be the favourite in a return, I think Joshua is more conservative in his approach than when he had that fight and that Whyte is improved and hopefully without injury.

I wouldnt be shocked if a return was a distance fight


I think its a top match up and both are box office ticket sellers

 

Just remember Whyte having one good punch, and losing the rest of the rounds before getting ktfo'd.

 

That was similar to how I remembered it, but it was far more competitive. The first round was all Joshua but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th were close rounds however you scored them and the 5th and 6th were competitive.
Worth a re-watch, I was surprised when I did

 

whyte had one good punch and looked good for 2 rounds... Joshua controlled the rest.. not that close.

 

Thats how I remembered it, but that wasnt the case at all. It was competitive and you could argue rounds 2, 3 and 4 I think

 

I havent seen that fight for a while i may rewatch it myself. Joshua said after the fight he went in there for a scrap rather than Boxing and it all started pretty well for him but he got tagged good and Dillian was close another couple of times after that and Joshua backed off and Boxed more after that. I think he learnt his lesson that night and with a hell of alot more at stake next time i also think he will play it alot safer but with Whyte being so aggressive i can see Joshua landing with something and then going in for the kill quite like the Povetkin fight.

 

it was a much better fight than I had remembered.
Whyte has very good powers of recovery.
I rate both as decent world class HWs.
Worth another look

Any news if Whyte is getting a title shot against Joshua yet?

 

latest i heard was Hearn has upped his offer to Whyte, and the other alternative, Miller, has said he hasn't received any word about the fight (in April), and he expects to face AJ in September as he thinks Whyte is next for AJ

 

I've been saying this for months, people see what they wanna see.

I've watched it dozens of times. It was way more competitive than people are willing to admit.

Good things Dillian punchs way hard now in the right and the left... and he was already winding Joshua with Body shots back in 2015.

 

Whyte has definitely earned his opportunity.

The body shots Whyte landed were really good. I thought both were impressive that night.
Im glad somebody else has seen it. If im honest I had forgotted how tough it was. Whyte had a bad first round but after that it became a hard fight with fairly even rounds whichever way you want to score them.
I seem to recall hearing Whyte came into that fight with an injury which cant have helped. Hopefully this time around (if it happens), both will be injury free.

I agree that Whyte has grown since then

 

i can go both ways on him "earning it", he's only beaten Parker, and he's been bang average at best in every fight at world/fringe world level, and didn't really bring anything to the table. But at the same time, that's still a better win than any one else around him. So in general, i don't think he's "earned" it, but in the current landscape, yeah he definitely has.

 

Each to their own. I credit him with the Browne win as well. Browne was an undefeated former world champ
