I really don't understand some of you who are so confident in Usyk...

Chisora has shown he still had something lately so I'm less down on Usyk than I was before. But I agree. He's a question mark at HW.

Even Michael Hunter said that Usyk will beat AJ and he cannot come back from there :grinning-smiley-048:

Usyk's accuracy and footwork will cause Joshua problems. He is a moving target unlike most of AJ's previous opponents. If Usyk has used time between the Chisora fight and a potential Joshua fight to good effect, he'll be more comfortable at HW.

Every HW apart from Haye has had a few problems against Chisora. Only problem is that the ring will be very small if Usyk fights AJ to negate his style.

Tbh ...I love usyk..the guy cleaned up at cruiser on the road...gotta love a guy like that..I'm also with you in that when I watch him I don't think he ever looks really special.. good... excellent footwork etc.... But I hear people saying he can beat Joshua and wilder (I do think he wins this) fury and I don't think he can..I think he's too small for the weight tbh. But some people think he's gonna clean up..so I tend to watch usyks fights wondering what I'm missing...full disclosure.

Having said that...he will have a special place forever in my wank bank for knocking out Tony bellew

The small ring will have not so high impact on Usyk as A.J might assume.

A.J is the best in long distance, for him large ring is very good.
    Usyk for evasion?
Usyk too loves long range thing like A.J does loves too.
Usyk main weapon was sharp and fast angles change not that much running around. Ofc him likes in- out game but small ring will not impact him so much.

Most impact even vs current CW guys might have Usyk's aging, if he is less sharp and quick.
I think this might be one reason why he had moved up in the weight. HW boxers usually are less agile than CW boxers, this is.
CW he too had some wins exactly cos he then had superiority in agility and had also top notch am and semi pro experience under belt.
If he was just a bit slower, he had lost vs Briedis and Gassiev at CW. Usyk also is very smart.

1" taller and 4" longer reach than Andy Ruiz (and Dereck Chisora)
1" shorter and 2" longer reach than Joseph Parker.

I'd say he's very much ballpark... Not the heaviest sure, but he's not too lacking in frame.

Nah I meant in the naturally a heavyweight size...don't mean in regards to height and reach...not sure he hits hard enough either..but I'm happy for him to prove me wrong

I'm not sure on the power front yet either, but he's put another 15lbs on since Delboy, so maybe that'll help a bit.

Still, he's got the frame to support a heavier and more powerful version of himself... The real question is where the sweetspot is going to be in terms of power-vs-speed, what build makes him the most successful at HW (and he's not really giving himself time to find it, so it's a bit of pot luck almost that he gets it right soon enough to perform against AJ)

Agree with you on that part...a fine line between being optimal and too big... I always get reminded of David tua when I think about this...im not comparing the two at all .he fights nothing remotely like usyk...but I remember when he was a 220 pounds the guys was a rapid ass wrecking ball...he bulked up to 250 odd and he looked like he was trapped in caramel and his power was all he had .... People go over the top sometimes putting size on

What are you awing for? I've been over ad nauseum what I think will happen in Usyk vs. AJ, and I certainly don't feel going over it yet again. It's quite simple. Usyk looked like a million bucks against Chisora when compared to the performances of Whyte and Parker. The only thing he didn't do was get the KO. But Chisora is borderline impossible to KO, unless you have truly devastating power and even then it isn't easy. Also, Chisora is the worst possible style for Usyk. AJ is not. AJ will be forced to be the aggressor which he isn't comfortable with, he's also not comfortable setting a blistering pace, due to the fact that he knows he'll gas and leave himself vulnerable. Usyk isn't not easy to hit clean against one two and uppercut artists. He's a fleet footed, defensively sound southpaw counter puncher, who's constantly moving. He's going to play it safe, not engage for the first few rounds, just flick out the jab, he'll slowly step in the gas starting around round 4, start walking AJ onto some nasty counter hooks coming from awkward angles as he's pivoting away, most likely landing to AJ's glass temples, as will his persistent jab. Then AJ will start getting desperate, swinging and missing a lot in the 7th or 8th, which will gas him out even more, therefore leaving AJ a sitting duck for the last 4 rounds, and when that happens, AJ can only take so much punishment, so those 4 rounds will quickly turn to 1 or 2, as yes... Usyk wins by late TKO/

And why is that? I still have a roughly 75% accuracy rate, and that's with all of the outlandish outsider picks I go with. If I played it safe like most of you, I'd be around 85. On my worst day, I'm still more capable of reading a fight and how it'll play out than the vast majority of this forum.

Might as well re-post this here

Usyk had been inactive for 12 months going into the Chisora fight and had only fought once in just under 2 years (23 months) and that was against very late notice Witherspoon who obviously isn't world class and only came to shell up and survive. That fight wasn't even decent sparring.

Chisora just beat AJ's best win over a prime opponent in most people's eyes, including flooring him which AJ couldn't. Chisora also sparked Takam whereas AJ needed a controversial premature stoppage by the ref to get Takam out of there.

And Chisora gives pretty much everyone problems with that relentless aggression, teak-toughness, power, and size and physicality of his and he was essentially Usyk's real HW debut because, as said, Witherspoon only showed up to survive. Chisora isn't an easy out for anyone and even if you're a huge massive punching SHW behemoth it's almost impossible to keep him off of you and deter him from ploughing forwards and on top of that he had a 9 month camp to prepare for Usyk, has been in the best shape of his career and is clearly hitting harder since hooking up with Haye and actually started taking training seriously.

Here's what AJ had to say about sharing a ring with Chisora 11 months prior to Usyk vs Chisora

"I watched the Chisora versus Price fight — I thought 'Why isn't Price controlling Chisora?' Joshua continued to share. "Then I sparred Chisora. The guy is strong, you know. He is no joke. And I give Dillian credit for dealing with him twice. To control Chisora over 12 or 11 rounds takes some doing."

Joshua tabbed Chisora for sparring sessions leading up to his rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr. in December, when he defeated the Mexican fighter via a lopsided unanimous decision to regain his unified world heavyweight titles.

Those sparring sessions ended in mutual respect between Joshua and Chisora.

"Look at Derek's knockouts - they aren't when he lands five shots then the ref jumps in.

    "Boom! Artur Szpilka.

    "Boom! Carlos Takam.

"He hit them with one shot and knocked them out. You can see he carries one-shot knockout power."

Fair play, I appreciate your opinions.

I don't pretend to be an expert or some boxing guru, I get things wrong and I get things right, I just spout my opinions, it's what we all do on here to be honest LOL

Look, You could be absolutely spot on, I could be right, actually we both could be wrong, the might play out in a way nobody saw coming.

For exmple, I said Canelo would beat BJS between 8-11, now technically I was pretty much spot on..

But the manner of victory wasn't what I thought it would be so I can't really take much credit for a heavy odds on favourite winning after the opponent has a terrible injury.

I expected Canelo to stop BJS but not in those circumstances and also I didn't think BJS would do as well as he did.

So although I was "correct" I was way off on how I'd thought it would end, an unexpected ending to be honest.

Anyway as for Usyk and AJ, I'm assuming it will happen, they are ironing out the details and we will find out soon enough.

If Usyk is competitive with Aj in a losing effort then all of Usyks critics will have been proven wrong. They won't realize that though.
