Lets not, and instead just call it boxing, and be happy with that ??? Using the term sweet science should be grounds for a beating from midgets with sticks !!!

One of the worst misconceptions on ESB is that you dont have skill if you dont fight like SRR, SRL, PW or FMJ. Thats one type of skill, there are many others.

Guys still slip punches, parry punches, find angles, feint set up punches. People back in the 80s decried the lack of skills then and praised the fighters of the 70s and people in the 70s complained about the lack of skills of the fighters in the 70s and worshipped the fighters of the 60s. I don't know what the fans of the 60s were saying because I wasn't around back then but I imagine it was the same thing. Nostalgia has a way of making everything look better.

    :good Well said

Not everybody is going to be a skilled boxer ala SRR, SRL, or PBF. Pressure fighters like Cotto, Hatton, and Pacquiao are skilled at what they do.

There are many aspects of the sweet science and without one type of fighter, the sport wouldn't be as interesting or complete.

Exaclty... The aim of boxing is to land the more effective punches.

By the logic of many here, guys like Joe Frazier would have no skill if they fought today (or the guys you mentioned).

Exactly, Mayweather, Leonard, Pep, and Robinson excelled at hit and not get hit. They kept a distance and used their boxing skills to win fights. But Frazier (as you mentioned) couldn't be effective as a boxer, so he fought perfectly for a little man and won fights.

Despite what some may think, you don't have to be a fan of Floyd Mayweather to be a true boxing fan:lol:

Boxing is all about fighting plain and simple. Not dancing, running, avoiding exchanges.
