I rewatched Duran vs Leonard 1 again and it was a lot closer than I remembered

All 3 judges had the fight close so what you're saying is nonsense.

And I'm certainly not "new" to boxing or a "Duran hater" for scoring the fight close which is in line with the 3 professional judges.

It was objectively a close competitive fight that Duran deserved to win but Leonard certainly won his fair share of rounds.

I have Leonard winning 8-7. Duran was up going into the championship rounds, but Leonard sweeps them all on my card and, with the possible exception of the thirteenth, I see no real argument to say otherwise. That turns a 7-5 fight for Duran into an 8-7 win for SRL. Duran won most, though not all, of his rounds more clearly, but Leonard certainly won his fair share-and anyone who says otherwise isn't watching the fight.

Watched it a couple of times and have it close for Duran.
What a brilliant fight it is tho, seeing Duran at his welterweight best.. brilliant.

Defensive skillset, Floyd absolutely is up there with them.

They did it against better elite fighters, noted, but in terms of feet and ring placement, arm and glove placement, head positioning, hand checking, head movement and reflexive manoeuvres, Floyd is absolutely up there with them and more consistent and responsible in many ways.

Yeah, but fighters don't score the fights they'e in.

Not agreeing is fine but suggesting people don't know how to score fights or they're new to the sport because they don't share the same opinion as you is not fine.

You're right with a caveat. The caveat is rescoring fights is a mug's game. The fight was close. AP had it 144-141 Duran. NYT had it 144-142 Leonard. Presumably those reporters watched a lot of fights.

Ring Magazine scored it a draw at the time, iirc. I know @McGrain scored it a draw as well at one point in the scoring thread.

Never use the official judges’ cards as a validation of how close a fight really was. You know, using the judges’ cards as your backup.

Check out Hagler-Duran and Ward-Froch for examples.

After that he said "fighters know when they lost, they know, we know, so when they called the decision i know i lost"
