When I first watched this bout, I thought Mayeather looked great. Don't get me wrong, he looked great in spurts, but the bout was very much a wrestle...and Hatton's footspeed, along with his feints made it difficult for Mayweather. When I watched it LIVE, I thought it was just Hatton's footspeed that caused him problems, but Hatton's feinting caused him success also. Mayweather looked great in 2-3 rounds when he stepped up a level or two/created his own space. It wasn't as dominant as I first thought.
LOL funnily enough i Rewatched it today aswell. The HBO team were pathetic during that fight, especially Harold Lederman's scoring. It was a different fight for mayweather, and the last time we saw him with that sort of style, the break he took from boxing really showed how he grew as a more intelligent boxer with his dominant performances against JMM and Mosley.
Great fight Mayweather showed his class but Cortez was a c*nt as ruined what should have been a classic like the guy above me said. **** Cortez that fight shall forever hang over him.
What exactly did Cortez "ruin"? Hatton's intentions to put on a John Ruiz style fight? Excessive holding is ****ing illegal. Was he supposed to just let Hatton push Mayweather through the ropes all night long? I never fully understood why the UK posters were so up in arms about the officiating in that fight until I downloaded the broadcast that aired over there. The pissing and moaning from the commentators was ****ing nauseating. It's interesting to see how much a broadcast can affect people's views on what went on during a fight.
Cortez was shouting "No Ricky no!" as soon as he got in any decent position to throw when close, especially early on. Cortez only let Ricky stay close when he was getting tagged on the way in. Watch it again.
I just remember watching the fight with a lot of Hatton cheerleaders thinking, this is only a matter of time. Hatton brought his all, and was competitive for a while but was in over his head.
yeah i think cortez was quick to seperate the guys out. never gave floyd and hatton to work it out inside. the only time he let it done was by the mid runds when hatton was virtually frustated already by cortez' refereeing amd floyd alreadya djusted to hatton's game by roger's advice, sticking his elbow to hatton's face.
Glad you posted this, because I always figured it was just sour grapes. But this makes more sense. The notion that Cortez 'robbed' Hatton of an opportunity is funny, though.
