No you see I wasn't like you. I wasn't hoodwinked into the 'razzmatazz' of the "super" 6, ie selling a dead division to foockwits. It really didn't mean anything to me. I saw it for what it was. A dead division, a wasteland after Calzaghe had retired. Something that was basically a slight level above 'Prizefighter'. 'Nuff said.
Competitive, interesting matchups are what actual boxing fans want, not fanboys. Fanboys only care about their crush and have the mentality of "if my guy isn't fighting the division is dog****!" The S6 had it's problems, but it was a great, long reaching premise and I for one am shocked and impressed that Showtime was able to keep it together until they crowned a champion.
What I do find funny is that Ward gets credit for "cleaning out a division" but Gennady apparently only fights bums yet at the time Ward was in the Super 6, he fought and beat 4 of the top 10...while Golovkin (assuming he waxes Murray) will have beaten 5 of the top 10. I would also add that the other top 10 guys he hasn't beaten, also won't get in the ring with him (Martinez, Quillen, Sturm) As of right now, Ward is the more annoying to me because A) He is way too inactive. B) He signed a contract ffs... God wants you to honor it son. C) He isn't a draw and needs to be more flexible to get big time fights.
Its obvious you're still butthurt because the guy you were rooting for didn't not win the super six, so don't try to diminish its significance. You talk about calzaghe 15 month reign as if like he ruled the division with an Iron fist. The guy didn't do squat until the last two years of his career. Just as these young fighters were coming up that fraud retired. you should stick to chin discussion with the rest of team elite virgins because ydksab.
Well the super 6 took place only 2 years after Calzaghe moved up from super middle so then you are saying Calzaghe reigned over a dead division as 2 of his top contenders at the end of his reign in Kessler and Froch took part in the super 6 and another participant Taylor beat Lacy, one of Calzaghe best wins at 168lbs. Bika another of Calzaghe's title challenger also lost to Ward. If your statement is correct then Calzaghe basically only stepped up near the end of his reign when the division in your words became a dead division. Kind of makes sense, spent most of his WBO reign avoiding other champions like Ottke then when the depth of the division waned he stepped up, in your words, to fight these "Prize fighter" level fighters like Kessler, Bika, Manfredo Jr and Lacy. Wow what a revelation I didn't realise just how **** Calzaghe resume was, thanks.
Although I think the division got "bigged up" leading up and during the Super 6, I do think it was better as today's MW division. Of course Taylor was past it, Dirrell's bull****, AA wasn't all that at 168, Bute was left out in the cold and the later additions of a mediocre Green, Bika and due to age very one dimensional Glencoffe didn't really help in preserving the quality of the tournament. BUT, there were a couple who did emerge from it that really stood out. I never expected Froch to be what he turned out to become, Ward (although dirty and homebound) is very skilled, and Dirrell was pretty damn fast and accurate although he turned out to be even more as a spoiler and a mental midget as I thought after the Stevens fight. Still as much a nightmare for a various amount of styles as he is for boxfans. Middleweight atm is going trough a transition period, as is LHW and at the Super 6 the transition was forced due to that tournament. It didn't work out due to the winner's attitude but that doesn't make it a bad division or a lousy touney.
Ward did in that tournament/five fights what Calzaghe couldn't do his entire career. Now keep on crying.
