For once I agree with you, Hit & don't get hit, touch the target more than yer opponant and you win, this is a boxing match, it's not a fight! Over the years TV has put far to much influence on what they percieve to be how to score a fight, obviously a blood & guts tear up is gonna be a good seller opposed to will 'o' the wisp chin ticklers bouncing around like flea's.

I hate Leonard, back in the day I scored this to Marvin by 1 point & again I've had it a draw, I just did'nt want to give that fukin snake Leonard the credit, I've mellowed over the years & I've got to give the man his fair due credit, he won it at a canter, albeit down to the absolute stupidity of Hagler's 90% contribution for handing it on a plate to Leonard. I'm a Hagler man, but I'll not give him an ounce of sympathy for throwing his title's into Leonards' lap. Easy to see how it's a clear 4+ point win for Leonard at the very least.

Marvin just looked a worn out fighter, slow of foot & punch, winging in hooks like an old lady swiping a mugger with her handbag. But as we all know, thats why Leonard avoided Hagler like the plague for 5 years until he saw the rot set in. Hagler left the front door of the house wide open for it to be burgled by an oppotunitic thief. But evn so, Leonard fought his guts out & got his dubious just rewards. Like most folk, I'm more angry with Hagler than Leonard.

Well, Hagler seemed to just get old in this bout, and maybe less smart also. He pretty much gave away the first two rounds by trying to look the better boxer and then later his shots at times sailed slowly over an exposed and tired SRL. Combined I had a close win for Ray. Had Marvin attacked in the first two instead of posing the result may have been different.

Hagler 115-113. Ray won the show....but not the fight in my mind.

u havent missed much as the bout is very overrated, especially by leonard fans

the real artistry is in the Norris-Leonard fight where the speedy upstart embarasses Leonard from start to finish

Not less smart...just frustrated and confused why he wasnt gettin to this guy consistently..And he had no idea why why...I would never call call a dumb fighter or go as far as to say he fought stupid, it just didnt happen.

I don't understand the wide scores for Leonard. There were several clear rounds where he just didn't do enough, parcelling out his work too thinly, and Hagler was keeping a consistent work-rate.

I almost always scored it 115-113 Hagler. I think I had it a draw once, and once 115-114 Hagler. That's the it ends up, unbiased scoring.
I can't argue with it going to Leonard though, but close, by the same margins I have it for Hagler.
The wide scores make no sense to me.

I think you're too emotionally involved to be allowed to score this fight.

I thought the bout was close. Leonard however simply outboxed the aging and much slower champion. Had the fight been 15 rounds instead of 12 Hagler may have gotten a ko since he was getting to Ray as the fight wore on. I scored it for Ray since he was scoring more so than the champion and in general outboxing him in most rounds.

I had it 6-5-1 for Leonard, literally as close as you can get it and still favor one over another.

And it killed me too, because Hagler was my hero.

That this was a 12 round outcome was one of the key factors which made me a former fan of boxing. Letting Ray chose ten ounce Reyes Gloves, and a 12 round distance, then holding up his fists and saying, "These are my judges," meant Hagler had to go balls to the wall like he did with Hearns. For Marv, an impressive stoppage win would have added very little to his resume, but the payoff was too massive to bypass.

Regardless of what the decision was going to be, Hagler's reputation took a deadly hit with each passing round, especially when the final bell rang.

At the conclusion of Hagler-Hearns, Al Bernstein exclaimed, "This makes up for the 'loss' to Duran!" SRL lasting the distance with Marv represented yet another loss, one devastating to his historical cachet. Yes, he was slowing down, but still the consensus P4P best in the world. SRL had been out of action for FIVE years, aside from a dismal showing against fringe WW contender Kevin Howard [which took place three years before Hagler].

For Marv, SRL should have been a quick knockout win and lucrative footnote to his career. Ray didn't just rock the boat, he capsized it. In the process, this caused the only steadily undisputed championship in boxing to disintegrate into three vacated pieces, shattered remnants next snatched up by Kalambay, Hearns and Frank Tate. Nearly 16 years would pass between defenses of the undisputed MW Title, from Hagler-Mugabe in March 1986, to Hopkins-Daniels in Feburary 2002. SRL-Hagler provided a financial windfall for the participants, but it was a long term disaster for the middleweight division and the sport itself.
