I see louis eventually stopping lyle but i think that he should get up at least twice from the canvas to win this. Lyle was aggressive, 20 pounds heavier, stronger,
,tough and could hit like a son of....(ask to foreman).louis was special and finally i think that he ends it but would not be any walk in the park.
    How do you see it?

Lyle would be a tough fight for any HW champion...but like you said Louis knocks him out every time

Louis was lucky for getting dropped by hotdog munching part-time street brawlers. Otherwise he had another avenging job, and his H2H reputation would be more realistic.

He may be as tough an adversary as say Buddy Baer was in their first meeting. Depending on the circumstances, he may drop Louis. But Louis would put on a parade of counter punching and Lyle would be counted out.

    I see a 75-76 Joe Louis giving a late 30's-early 40's Lyle a total beat down.

IMO Lyle would be Louis' toughest competition and it wouldn't be close. Prior to 1962 there were only a few champs who would be competitive with Lyle. Lyle's combination of size, strength, and skill would be too much for most of the heavyweight boxers who came before him.

The true prime Lyle, kinda like James Scott, was never seen due to prison time, surgeries, and time off.

If Quarry could beat Lyle, then Louis brings a lot more to the table.

Jerry quarry fought a green lyle. But ok according your logic... If galento and buddy baer could hurt louis badly then lyle could do the same and even improve it because he was better

He did lose to Quarry who was the same size as many old time heavies. I think guys like Sharkey, Schmeling, Max Baer or Gene Tunney would have a reasonable chance to beat Lyle. It wouldn't be far fetched to believe.

Disagree on Lyle being “green”. He got a late start, but he aS already 32 years old and 19 fights deep when he figure quarry.

The previous fight, he knocked out number 8 rated in the world Larry Middleton.

Directly after the quarry loss, Lyle defeated Garcia (beat Norton ) , stalling (beat shavers) and Peralta.

He was very close to his prime in 73

Who ever you managed, you would turn pale at the idea of matching them with Lyle!

Lyle was some green against Quarry. I would have like to have seen a truly prime Lyle. It always seemed he was playing catchup in his career.

What about peak vs peak? Louis in your scenario might be just a touch past it and Lyle a smidgeon green.
