I have to agree with this. Berto is still developing and we should at least give him a chance to prove imself out before we give him the "Lacy overhype status". At this point, do i think he could handle the elite in the division, No I dont. But given a few more fights that will challenge him stylistically and the kid might have a pretty fair shot. :hat

How original, another Lacy comparison to Berto. :patsch Berto is not a seasoned fighter and definitely isn't an elite welter quite yet but he is no Jeff Lacy either. Unlike Lacy, when pressured Berto can adjust and return fire to alter the pressure back on his opponent. A great example of this was against Estrada who came forward the entire fight but was constantly taking punishment.

As far as your predictable assessment, tell that to anyone who has eaten one of his uppercuts. He can throw that punch at anytime and during any juncture of the fight.

Lacy doesn't have anywhere near the skills of Berto - I can't believe they could be compared on any level.

I don't think Berto is overrated. He's a hell of a fighter and has tremendous upside. I think he's going to have a great career and I can't understand why anyone can watch him fight and not see that he has tremendous skills... :huh

estrada is not a good measuring stick to how will berto look agaimst pressure fighters like cotto marg etc, berto is a fighter that throws in flurries he explodes at times and then cruises he cant counterpunch and he is very easy to counter himslef just watch how forbes was tagging him repetedly he just didnt hrow enough,, berto's chin is always exposed to be hit and he doesnt know how to pace himself in a fight he has no fluidity in his attack and elite fighters will expose that mark my words

berto is way faster and much more intelligent in the ring than lacy ever was or ever will be.

Mark my words...Berto=the next MAYWEATHER! The only problem I see for him is he's kind of to small to fight Marg/ Williams. Fighting normal WW's though..This guy is gonna make em look bad.

I don't mind Berto, but he's not as good as Cotto Margarito Williams Mayweather. At 147 he is not top tier, and I don't think he ever will be.

their styles are diffrent but their makeup in the ring are pretty much the same, they are very predicatble and none of them are smart in the way the fght

Comparison works in terms of hype not skills, speed, movement.

Why do people keep using the Stevie Forbes comparisons? Forbes is a very good boxer. I saw that on a a thread yesterday. "Pac would beat DLH because DLH couldn't even stop Forbes." No one has stopped! Forbes has never even been down if I'm not mistaken! If Berto is such a bad fighter, put your favorite WW in with Forbes and I bet it goes to decision.
There is nothing wrong with Andre Berto. He is a determined young fighter who is improving and finding ways to win while the competition gets better. Of the WW champions he is seen as the weakest but only because of the guys who are champs at WW.
Jeff Lacy wasn't an overrated hype-machine until he lost to Calzaghe. Granted he has done nothing to convince us otherwise, Jeff is still getting title eliminator bouts. If he would come to his senses and get a trainer he would probably be a contender again. Still the dude lost to who some call the p4p best and a former champ who beat B-Hop.
And I'm sorry because I know this isn't a Lacy thread, but the comparison is weak. No similarities at all.

These are vague similarities bro, its much easier to discuss how different they are, this is why this thread is getting bashed. Honestly theres not much to compare either fighter to...

Lacy is rated appropriately. Berto on the other hand is hyped entirely too much

However both are nothing more than average.....thats about it
