Quit hyping up the guy so much and let him earn his reputation. Haven't seen the Whyte match but it sounds like he did decent against a fellow prospect. Now he needs to step it up against another live body and not some washed up guy like Chisora
People are basing Joshua because unrealistic expectations were set for someone who arguably did not even deserve his gold medal. He is a fine heavy and should have a good career. He will win a title and perhaps even be considered a legit champ. But he is by no means any unstoppable force, and most people can see that.
Would like to go on record saying that American are as bad as Brits for hyping up fighters. In fact, we're all as bad as each other. Anyway - good win in my book and showed maturity.
I think most people are saying it was an excellent performance, I have not seen anyone call him a bum - it's just that Brit****s lose their siht when someone doesn't lick blals of one of their decent fighters. From a not bias standpoint, Joshua went down slightly in my estimation after this. The whole fact I had him higher has to be evidence that I'm not bias, I'm just going off what I see.
I love watching Whyte, his personality, the body punching style, etc but you have to admit that his conditioning was abysmal and after the 2nd round was basically a zombie in the ring. He could barely stand, was off balance, was throwing wild punches from off balance, and just looked almost like an amateur. If Joshua was in there with ANY top 10 heavyweight they would've taken him out in the 2nd round. He was there for the taking. Whyte was just exhausted beyond belief and couldn't pull it off. Joshua showed some weaknesses in the fight. He was gassed himself after the 2nd, didn't show that he was skilled in counterpunching under fire, was very stiff and other areas. This is only his 15th fight though so many of these can be corrected.
Dillian Whyte was a better opponent than anyone on the Bronze Bummer's resume. He could actually punch back.
It's just a backlash from all the hype, happens whenever a fighter is overly hyped like Joshua. When you see people make unfounded claims like Whyte would beat top 10 guys so what Joshua did was great it makes me cringe. Whyte has done nothing to suggest he can compete at that level and his stamina and conditioning has to be seriously questioned. What Joshua has is a lot of potential and I can see why people are excited by him, hell I'm excited by him but all the over zealous supporters are just as bad as all the haters.
Some valid points regarding the second round, however on balance I think it needs to be taken into account the dislike these two have for each other and the fact Joshua wasn't trying to box Whyte. They were both gunning to take the other out, so I don't think it's a fair reflection to say he'd be as ill disciplined in another equally high profile fight. What I took from it was that he came through some mild adversity and showed maturity by going back to his boxing. That in itself is a great trait to show early on, as I'm in complete agreement, that against a more seasoned pro he might not have gotten away with it. I think people are making more of it than there was, I watched it live and thought he may go down here, but after watching it the second time and being more objective, I think he was more stunned than hurt. He had a little panic, then quickly composed himself, took the 3rd round off, got his second wind and went back to his boxing. Better to go through something like that now than in a world title fight. He certainly was open about his short comings though, which again, shows he understands the game. He needs a bit more head movement and needs to establish his jab and throw it with more frequency. His stamina is still a question to some, but again, I put that down to throwing 160 power punches in the opening 2 rounds. After the 3rd his mouth wasn't hanging open, but I'd like to see him tested into the championship rounds. This was his 15th pro fight, I think people need to remember that. Wilder wasn't tested until he fought Stiverne, who if we're being honest, hadn't really beaten anyone of note and picked up a vacant paper title. It's certainly an interesting time for the HW division, it's not been this exciting for over 10 years. We have some decent prospects, which at the moment is all they should be considered.
The over hyping has been sickening and continues here. 3 years into his career and his best win is over an unproven slugger who sported a gut and had very clumsy footwork. Yes Whyte came to win, but let's not pretend he was a proven European level guy. The division is exciting right now with a number of emerging hopefuls, Joshua, Parker, Helenius, Teper and Hughie, as well as some proven guys a level up, Povetkin and Pulev. As well as some guys on the way down, like Arreola, Stiverne Interesting times but lets not go overboard on what was, essentially, a domestic level fight.
Thanks :thumbsup Just don't get why people get so caught up with looking for faults with a 15 fight novice who to be fair, has had a pretty decent run of competition. If this was his 25th fight I might see the issue, but there's a lot of immature posters on this site who have clear national, racial and man crush biases. Then again, the internet has given every idiot a platform to voice their agenda. I'm sure that had the internet been as prevalent in the 80's and 90's we'd be hearing the same about Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield etc etc
