I see Roy Jones hanging past his prime is hurtin his legacy more than Ali hurt his.

Of course he was, and anyone who thinks differently is only fooling themselves.

Are you talking about Roy Jones Jnr here? He had a fight only 6 or 7 months ago.

Roy should have retired already! He's hanging around too long..he'll be humbled again by some second rater. He's begging for it.

Saddest part is Roy is already showing symptoms of long term damage and is just ignoring them.

That's right..they just don't know when to quit.

True, and their hangers-on are only too keen for the gravy train to roll on. Sugar Ray Leonard made that point clear on a number of occasions in his book.

the problem is Roy is he never looked for top competition. And he has been diminished for years now. So if he continues we will remember him being stopped more than being dominant.

20 years from now this won't be the case. he'll at least be remembered as one of the best of his era. he did win that "fighter of the decade" award and was pound for pound the best for years.

If Roy Jones went on to lose so many times that his career record is 56-56, I'd still have Roy Jones in my top 30-40 in P4P all time great list.

Post Ruiz, I hold none of his losses against him. He knows how great he was Pre-Ruiz and that is obviously enough to validate him.

Still, if he'd hung them up after Ruiz, or even Tarver 1, I think it would have improved his present standing considerably.

He would have had Toney, BHop, Johnson, Hill, Griffin , Tarver, McCallum and Ruiz, most in fairly dominant fashion.

Some decent wins from MW to HW.

Not knowing when to go has certainly detracted more from his standing than the same affliction did from Ali's.

Just read on the main forum Steve Collins said on Talksport that he and Roy Jones are fighting in 3 months time :yikes

(don't blame the messenger if it's a hoax - only posting what I read)

It's bad enough Roy Jones continuing with his self destruction. But who on earth would sanction a bout involving a 48 year old who has been retired for 15 years?

I dunno, Ezzard Charles lost a load of fights in his final years, to second-raters etc., and he's probably more highly rated now by historians than he ever was.

Fight fans were far more forgiving for losses in those days. They were just considered an occupational hazard. These days you drop your zero or finish with a loss or two and people don't want to know you.
