No I think Cotto is deserving but no right away ... he still has to prove himself and he still has to fight better guys ... Floyd has 18 championship fights and fought over 20 former/current champions.
He's been a champ for 10 years ... I think its only right for Cotto to show respect and build himself up.

He's hungry no doubt ... but who's to say that Floyd isn't hungry? .... Money is his motivation and if the money's right - Floyd will be there.

I don't think there's a clash in styles either because Cotto is a carbon copy of past Floyd opponents. You can compare him to alot of the guys who tried to pressure Floyd and lost.

Cotto does nothing for his legacy ... his legacy is already set ... he doesn't need to fight a guy on his way up to prove himself ... his resume speaks for itself.

Its cool to show interest but ...
It reminds me about Floyd in 98' and 00' calling out DLH ... at the time DLH was at a much bigger weight class and was the top dog in the game ... Floyd built himself up and 7 years later he got his shot at DLH.

The fight will happen ... Cotto just has to win a few fights against some tough foes and then the fight will take place.

Floyd said that he would fight him on national TV - but first he has to get his weight up. HBO the real promoter ... will make the fight happen because Floyd is the face of their boxing franchise. They're going to hype of the fight ... mix in some drama ... and Floyd is going to steal the show ... and fans are going to down play the PBF victory.

as a cotto fan, if this happens and floyd wins convincingly, i would give floyd his proper due. in fact, i would give him props just for the sake of taking the fight.

Yes, he has a good legacy. But this could be the difference between being a top 30 or top 50 ATG. He has been critcised for not fighting the best guys in a division. Raheem comes to mind. Tszyu certainly does. This would be a huge win for a man that started at 130 to beat the guy that is by consensus his biggest challenege at 147.

I don't care if Cotto has to beat Margarito first to 'prove' himself, as long as it happens.

    Thats funny ...

you don't know ... I've been called eze and allblack ... those guys must really know boxing.

G_Rap knows alot about the sport and knows Floyd in particular ... you can't hate a guy who knows what he's talking about. :good

Me and G_Rap aren't debating against each other ... he has valid points and it frustrates some because they know he's right.

Cotto started off at 140 ... what makes him more of a WW than Baldomir, Judah, or DLH?

Every fighter he fights is a legit threat and all have a chance of beating him - but they haven't.

Once its all said and done i'm pretty sure that his ranking on the all-time list will go up.

Wasn't Hatton, DLH, Baldomir, and Judah supposed to be his biggest threat.

This was a waste of time for Cotto. When Gomez beat Gatti, he may as well have fought Larry Merchant as Gatti was way over the hill at that point.

It had nothing to do with Cotto getting beat down ... I figured that Cotto would lose because of overlooking the unknown Gomez. I thought (and still think) Cotto's chin is suspect and he's been to the well too many times.

I said that if he were to make it a brawl then he would get caught with some bull****.

He didn't ... he boxed and he won convincingly ...

    I think you're an idiot ... :good

6 rounds. that is ridiculous. floyd couldn't or wouldnt for whatever reason finish off a C/D level opponent in Carlos Baldomir. Can you please justify how he would finish Cotto in 6.
