Floyd is the WW champion and Cotto is the #1 contender ... there's no 1 and 2 spots in this situation.

There's only the champion and contenders ... now doesn't the contender have to build his way up to fighting the champ?

You guys are speaking for Cotto and Cotto isn't ready for Floyd his handlers know that ... they're creating buzz for Cotto but they aren't throwing him into the fire.

Now if the fight happens and Cotto loses w/o having built up his status then thats only going to bring alot of bull**** being said about him and people discrediting him as a fighter.

Cotto should fight Margarito ... these guys don't need each other and their legacies aren't dependant on fighting each other.

Cotto hasn't proved that he's ready to challenge Floyd ... he's proved that he can win a vacant title and defend it against fringe contenders but thats about it.

For the record I want to see this fight ... but I also don't think this fight needs to happen right away.

The two don't need each other and would fare well if they didn't fight ... it may leave some people upset but they're not on a collision course.

Fitz, will it make you feel better if we all just admitted that Cotto will never be ready for Floyd. He's only 32-0 with 26kos. what are we thinking? i suppose, he needs to do like ricky hatton and fight some puerto rican cab drivers to really be ready. or how about do like DLH, and lose a few fights, beat Margarito, and get some gift decisions. but seeing like that wont happen, i guess he will never be ready.

You say Margarito isnt ready for Floyd. So I guess of Cotto fights him, he still wont be ready. P. Williams isnt ready for Floyd, so Cotto wont be any mor ready if he destroys him. Should I continue.

    Youre a ****ing idiot.

    Cotto @ 147:
    Zab Judah W KO
    Shane Mosley W PTS
Quintana W KO (Who is a champion today, remember?)

He defended the WBA four times, and he's an up&comer?

    Floyd @ 147:
    Zab Judah W PTS
    Carlos Baldomir W PTS
    Ricky Hatton W KO

One can only imagine how many great fights in the history of boxing may never have happened if champions took on this "I'm too good to fight the #1 contender" attitude.

The silly part is that Floyd will add to his legacy much more by fighting Cotto than he will be beating two guys he already handled (and yes, I do mean he handled DLH, despite some thinking Oscar won).

Now, it may very well be that Cotto and Floyd will meet down the road, and all this complaining will be for not. But, the bottom line is that they should meet sooner than later. Too many things can happen in this sport to derail big matches like this.

    No man ...

You have valid point ... and your not coming at me with pointless name calling like some people on here. I get you point totally ... I want the fight to happen as well. It doesn't need to happen right away though ...

Cotto can continue on with his career and never fight Floyd and I wouldn't care. He has a proposed fight with Margarito ...

He's not ready to challenge Floyd ... he will never be ready ... but thats not going to stop him from fighting Floyd ... he's never seen a fighter like him and I doubt he can find someone in sparring or any top 10 contenders can match PBF stylistically.

I don't understand people who still think Cotto needs to prove himself. He is clearly the number one contender to face Floyd for P4P king status. There is really nobody else for him to beat other than Margarito, and he will take care of him on July 26th. Give the man some damn respect. Some of yall act like Floyd is God or something. His record isn't all that impeccable. He is NOT above fighting Miguel Cotto

What makes you believe he would get "embarrased"? Do you think it would be a closer fight than DLH?

In my opinion, Cotto would pose a far greater threat than DLH with speed, power, pressure, and overall ability.

DLH took Floyd to split decision(i dont think it was that close), but if the judges saw it that close, then certainly Cotto would take many more rounds.

again, I dont thinnk Floyd would have the courage to open up offensively against a monster like Cotto who could make him pay. He fought very reluctantly against DLH and Baldomir, neither of which are on the same level as cotto is right now.

So, how will Floyd embarass him?

what has cotto been doing his past 4 fights? mosley, judah and quintana were all top 10 ranked welters when cotto beat them.

what the hell did hatton do to get a shot at floyd? go life and death with collazo?
    :patsch
a win over cotto, an elite fighter in his prime, makes a good argument for a top 30 standing in the ATG list. only a FMJ management tool, believes cotto does nothing for his legacy.

Cotto is not ready for PBF? Then who is ready for Floyd? Who is ready enough out there to be able to have the ligetimate chance to fight Floyd? I cant think of anyone except for Cotto.. If Cotto isnt ready, then I dont know who is.. Now tell me, if Cotto goes out and defeats Margo? Will he be ready then? Why did Floyd fight those other fighters? He thought they were ready? Did he think that had more skill than Cotto? And I'm not talking about DLH and Hatton, because he fought them to get rich, but the other fights.. Anyways, youre basically saying that there is no one out there who has a hell of a chance to beat Floyd.. Believe me, Cotto is ready and he would cause Floyd the most trouble he will ever see in his career..

Actually, if boxing was run like a real sport, there would be one champ and a fight between him and the #1 contender would be ordered. It wouldn't matter how the #1 contender's resume looked compared to the champs. If he has done enough to make it to the spot of #1 contender, then he gets a shot. Now, if it so happens that the champ is head and shoulders above everyone else in the division, then so be it. The champ destroys the #1 contender, he adds to his record and his rep, and the process continues.

We shouldn't even be discussing this. This fight should be happening, sooner than later.
