I see why Pavlik is holding on to those belts

Pavlik has fought at, near, or above the super middleweight limit 14 times. His record in those fights is 13-1 with 11 KO's. He has NEVER fought as a true SMW. He was always a blown up middleweight. If he put the weight on correctly, he would definitely be even better. The idea that Pavlik can't do anything above 160 is a myth started by haters on the internet.

Bute is an opponent I would be very, very careful with. I think highly of him. If Team Pavlik wants that fight, they shouldn't make it until after KP puts on a couple good performances back to back. They also need a firm commitment to make a permanent move up, and add the weight correctly. Now is definitely not the time. The nice thing about it is that there is no hurry to make that fight. A Pavlik/Bute fight would be all about positioning to fight the tournament winner, and the tourney won't end until 2011.

There probably isn't a person on earth that spent more time analyzing a potential Pavlik/Abraham fight than I did. If I were to pick one fighter from 168 who would make Pavlik look like an absolute beast, it would be Arthur Abraham. You can not take the first 3-4 rounds off, and fight 30-45 seconds per round afterward, and hope to survive with Pavlik. Stylistically Pavlik is AA's worst nightmare come to life. Pavlik KO8 Abraham in a rather one-sided affair.

Kessler/Pavlik used to be a fight everyone hoped to see. Mikkel at his best against Kelly at his best would be one hell of a fight. They'd probably set a record for the most 1-2's every thrown in a single fight! Right now I'm not so sure it's a good fight. The version of Kessler that showed up to fight Ward would not make it out of the middle rounds. Kessler/Ward was more a matter of Kessler looking like **** than a matter of Ward looking like anything special. If you come in against Pavlik like that, he'll eat ya alive.

Froch gets hit to much to hang with KP, and he does not have the chin for it. Froch got put on his ass by a single shot from Taylor. Pavlik took about 14-15 of the same shots, plus a head butt, and a couple elbows before he went down. Froch came back out after the knock down and proceeded to lose the next few rounds. Pavlik came out in the next round and beat Taylor from pillar to post. Taylor couldn't miss Froch with the left hand. KP has a better, stiffer, and more versatile left than Taylor. Froch is more interested in guarding his knee caps than his chin. He would eat massive right hands right from the opening bell, and that is never good news against Pavlik. If we let the record speak for itself, I do think we have to conclude that Kelly Pavlik is at least 14 seconds better than Jermain Taylor.

Showtime is broadcasting this tourney, but make no mistake about it, this is Sauerland's baby, and Sauerland had good reasons for not inviting Bute and Pavlik. He does not want Bute or Pavlik anywhere near either of his fighters. And THAT is the end of that story.

There is not on damn thing wrong with staying in a division, especially a rich historical division like middle, and ruling it. I am not saying Pavlik can or will do that, I think he loses at some point sooner then later. Weight jumping isnt for everyone. You can build a great legacy by ruling a division.

i couldnt agree more. ive said this in a number of threads lately, but if you recall the lead up to hopkins, pav was asked a lot about the move up in weight and he would always respond by saying, "im fine with it, it means i get to eat," or "at least i get to eat pasta."

to paraphrase what i have said in other threads in two words...

Another message to all those haters ... Pavlik would do well at super middleweight and probably even light heavyweight. I'm sure he weighs close to 180 lbs between fights ... thats no different than Chad Dawson who's around that weight between fights as well. And he spent most of his career at or above 168 lbs.

I'd love to see KP surround himself with a "dream team" the way Hopkins did. I read some comments from Cameron Dunkin about the therapist KP worked with in Vegas. I don't recall the name, but it sounded like the guy is a lot more than just a therapist. I think that if Dunkin has his way, the guy will be involved in the future. Throw in Miguel Diaz, and get him involved in assisting Leow with training, and we may have a winner. I like Diaz because he is a lot more than just a cut man. Plus Kelly and Jack have worked with him for years, so there is already a relationship.

He's 3-0 in championship fights ... going on 4-0 after tonight ... he'll have a good 2010 ... and I'm sure he'll fight PW and it would be a great fight and it would be just in time to get someone like Guerrero and Jacobs enough exposure to climb up the ranks. I think Guerrero needs 3 more fights with one of them being a 12 rounder. If this guy can sell 7+ k seats then i'm sure that he'll be alright for the big event.

The middleweight division will be on the rise in the next couple of years and Pavlik is going to rack up some meaningful defenses ... i'm sure that Williams is going to play games with him and probably ruin the chances of them fighting. I don't think it was a matter of Pavlik ducking him, I think that they just needed more time. I can't blame either side but it's just weird that they've moved on.

If Pavlik can make 5 defenses of his title by the end of the super six and possibly face a few undefeated challengers, along with Williams and Martinez ... hell there might even be James Kirkland in the mix when he comes back. I can see Sturm coming across the pond and taking that risk for the money. Or if he can unify the titles then i'm sure that his stock will rise.

I'm blk and I can be honest boxing needs someone like Kelly Pavlik to thrive - not to keep boxing going but for balance. There aren't any other elite white american born fighters in the game. He's proving that there's room for everyone. And maybe with his success it can take boxing back to it's local roots.

I brought up that I didn't think "Team Williams" wanted none of Kelly after what happened with Martinez and it was pointed out to me that the fight would still be worth 4X what he got for Martinez. If they don't take it, then we know......
