Too many times against Monzon, Napoles would try to pull back from Monzon's straight punches only to eat those punches because he didn't regard Monzon's super long reach enough. Other times, he would try to pull back at an angle and again eat those straight punches for the same reason. Pulling back does not change the trajectory of the punch, but shoulder rolling did. I would have trained Napoles to shoulder roll straight punches and not pull back. He would have then avoided so many more straight punches. Also, Napoles didn't parry jabs enough, he preferred too much to duck or again pull back, which cost him against Monzon, who had a very long reach. I would have trained Napoles to parry more jabs. Finally, Napoles didn't move his body fast enough to react to Monzon's check hooks. This is because he wasn't very athletic at all; he only appeared fast at times because he bounced so much, which was another weakness of his. I would have made Napoles do his squats and deadlifts to strengthen those glutes and hamstrings to be able to push off the feet and pivot more quickly and thus to actually get inside Monzon's check hooks.

    What say you?!

Napoles went to Paris to sightsee and his drinking was very heavy around that time. That and the fact he was really a lightweight already past his prime meant he was always going to be cannon fodder for Monzon. The fact he had success for a couple of rounds is testament to how talented he was but also how little Monzon thought of his chances.

No amount of training would’ve helped Napoles against Monzon. Oh, and you’re an idiot.
