(Edit: Okay, forget the steroid part of the post, I watched the fight from ring entrence and missed the BALCO part.) ________________________________________________________________________ Huge win for Mosley, who deserves all the credit. But as he delivered big, HBO commentary failed miserably because of biased commentary. So I shout for a Thomas Hauser article on the subject. Now in 2 fights in the middle of the BALCO scandal, Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant and Emanuel Steward failed even to mention this nasty subject involving Mosley. How the hell that can be called unbiased commentary? You see, Mosley produced and produces RATINGS, and talking about this subject would be a huge LOSS OF PRESTIGE for the very network that made Mosley a superstar. And because of that, you can throw objective journalism out of the window, which was exactly the case on Saturday night. So instead of being unbiased, we hear things like "Shane Mosley, I LOVE YOU" (Merchant, Mayorga fight), or Manny Steward crying in the background in joy (he has emotions as anyone, but being so pro-Mosley on live television, in the 'unbiased expert' rule is totally unacceptable). Court testimony confirms that Shane Mosley injected the illegal substance in his blood and it was explained to him what the substance does to his body. It has been all over the media for months now. But not on HBO, which failed unbiased commentary miserably but jumped on a rumor of these illegal hand wraps, a subject HBO crew probably knew too little to make conclusions (referring to the Cotto fight for example). It is a subject the commission and Margarito's own promoter is going to deal with. But mentioning this several times, and both during the fight and after, in the interview, failing to refer to the steroid scandal is totally unacceptable. Hopefully Thomas Hauser is going to write a typically badass article on the subject.
Good points in your OP and yes, Hauser is good. However they should be slow to judge Mosley who has not been convicted of a crime... They spent enough time talking about the allegations before the fight, it should not be part of the in ring action commentary though. There's a time and place... They are always on the house fighter's nuts...nothing new. That's why it's Hollywood Boxing Office...
Uhh... They mentioned it last night (including EPO, clean and the clear, Blaco, Defamation lawsuits etc.). I watched the fight on DVR after the seeing it live, and its there. Also regarding the whole matter of EPO he was told what the substance does to his body but he was not aware of the illegality of the substance, he maintains to that he was to trusting of his fitness trainer who worked for Conte. He passed a lie detector test, a test that Conte and his trainer have refused to take. Had he knowingly taken something illegal it would be a different matter.
I started a thread about this subject but was accused of trying to change the subject..... Like there is not enough hand wrap threads already
big bone stfu there here to commentate on a fight thats taking place not debate a fighters personal affairs.
did I watch a different fight? they had a long piece on it in the broadcast before the fight started...
My bad. I watched the fight itself from ring entrance, they never mentioned it. Forget that part. But still, it was very biased broadcast, and it's not the first time. They clearly rooted for Mosley. As their job, it's unacceptable.
......and talk about bias....did you see Lampley go as far as trying to save Cotto's reputation by already condemning Antonio Margarito and accusing him of wrapping his hands with plaster, without so much as the commision confirming it??????
