It's people like you who root for Margarito that are making me root for Cotto. That, and Cotto actually has those annoying things like talent and skill. Margarito's "most feared man in boxing" shtick is old.

No this fight does not have Chavez Taylor written all over it not even close, the fight that would have been Chavez Taylor would have been a Mayweather Margarito bout but of course someone new better than to go there.

I see your point I guess Money would resemble Meldrick more however alot of people here are posting that Margo is not Chavez....No ****ing ****! but their styles do match up most mexicans have the same style and are inside fighters no exeptions to these two, I just think the only difference is margos height and reach, and he likes to throw punches in bunches. Same body attack and slow movement though.

all cotto has going for him is speed and skill eh?... he's ko'd 26 or 27 out of 32 roughly?..but speed and skill is all he has?

how about his bone crushing power?

:thumbsup I was about to say all that.I remember the build up as well,it was a pick em affair between 2 elites.:deal
In fact Chavez was already considered an ATG at this point,so dont know why hes making out he was a Buster Douglas style underdog in that scrap.
Nobody thought JC was 'a punching bag fighter' and 'didnt even have a chance' by any stretch.

    Ridiculous post.

it was a pick em fight, Taylor had a gift much like Mayweather did and Chavez though he was still dominating he was in terms of boxing supposed to be getting older, Chavez was a slight favorite to win but not a huge one.
the best fight I have seen and I thought the stoppage was pre mature as did everybody else.

    I see the similarities.

On one hand we have the polished, smooth, skilled Cotto who is supposed to out-box and at times outslugg Margarito to a decision.

On the other nad we have the rugged, hard nosed fighter in margarito who's only chnace in winning is to KO Margarito.

Though in style it's nothing alike, in scenerio, it is very similar.

So you guys are saying you can't picture Cotto outboxing Margarito for most of the fight and then perhaps late in the fight (considering Margarito's excellent stamina and Cotto's past history of tiring late) Margarito coming back and kayoing Cotto?

If that happened it would defitnately be similar to Chavez-Taylor.

I completely get where you're coming from. I think Margo is hugely underrated on these boards.

That may very well happen and draw a parralel to the way the Chavez-Taylor fight unfolded......

.....however, the thread starter insinuates that Chavez' style is similar to Margarito's. There is only one similarity and it is'nt an opinion, its a fact.......They both apply alot of pressure, but any other similarities stop there.
Chavez was a much better boxer with terrific defensive manuevers, the tops of which were plenty of waist movement and parrying techniques.

Margarito really throws caution to the wind and relies primarily on applying alot of pressure while mantaining an unbelievable workrate. His defense I would describe as poor.

Chavez was more educated and precise in what he was doing.
In most instances, his punches were very much sharp and on target, working to a very high connect %......
.....in fact, the fighter that most resembles Chavez in this Cotto-Margarito matchup is Cotto......Cotto and Chavez are very much similar, the major difference between them is the quality of their chins.
....but stylewise, Cotto most resembles Chavez.
Margarito skillwise, is so much far behind.

Having said that, I'm not dismissing a Margarito victory. I think its very possible that he could accomplish it, and thats for two things that imo are lacking in or that Margarito is just plain better in than Cotto that he could take advantage of......
.....Chin and stamina, those two factors can and may play a major role in the fight, but we shall see come fightnight!
