It's odd how boxing isn't just about being effective sometimes. The greats are very clever at skewing the judges' perception. Oscar De La Hoya and Sugar Ray Leonard are well known for their shoeshine combinations at the end of rounds. WHICH fighters were the best at stealing rounds?
The key, of course, is keeping a round close and having the sense of ‘I can take this round if I turn it up right here.’ It’s not just ‘do nothing and throw a late flurry,’ it’s knowing when it matters. Many of those mentioned here were masters of that kind of awareness. That’s how winning is done.
Not as big a name as those mentioned but McGuigan was pretty open admitting he 'saved' (for lack of a better word) his best work for the last minute of a round to catch the judges eye
It's only good sense really, I think it's established that the last minute is worth more than the first minute.
