This is gonna sound harsh cos to be fair I like Joyce to listen to and he does come across as a nice guy.. I'd love to get behind him (not bum him) but I just must be missing something completely with his style.. His jab won him the fight.. Is it that good a jab...or was it dubois complete lack of head movement?... I saw Joyce land maybe one or two punches that weren't jabs... His left hook is slower than Steven hawking's chair.

I have to give him his props cos I picked him to lose... But what am I missing... He's got a good chin.. Good engine.... But is he really that good... Or did dubois just wilt.

I mentioned last night that Joyce reminds me of froch.. I see nothing spectacular.. But he wins

Same with Joyce... I'd like to support him but can't see him doing anything at world level.. I dunno or maybe he is.. With heavyweight being pretty turd outside the top 2

He's a decent British title holder.
That's the level I'm judging him at.

    So far he has....

    Dubois
    Hrgovic
    Jennings
    Vykhrist
    Stiverne
    Ustinov
    Kiladze
    Wallisch
    Thomas
    Lewison

    ....on his resume.

I think it's about time you started reconsidering your stance. What are you missing? All the subtle intangibles. Go back and look, a lot closer.:deal:

Some of those aren't that good... Lol

I've been watching him years.. I see the same thing.. I hear people rave about him... He looks like he's permanently encased in caramel... I'm confident my grandad could dodge his left hook... N he's dead lol

He's always had a good jab even back in the amateur days he'd bludgeon guys with it, like in the Hrgovic fight. But it did look better last night because he was facing a guy with zero head movement, usually Joyce varies the jab a lot more but that was not necessary vs Dubois.

Yeah he's slow but he still hits guys a lot despite that. What he has is decent timing and surprisingly good reflexes, he's usually able to roll with shots and take the power off them even when he's caught. His head and upper body movement is pretty damn good but people failed to notice that because all they see is him getting reckless and getting clipped, ignoring he's slipped a load of other shots prior to that.

I would definitely put him in the Froch, Vitali, even Fury category of fighter. Ugly style, not perhaps the greatest athlete looking at them but they are damn effective in more subtle ways that are not obvious.

How far can he go? Even though I picked him to stop Dubois I'm not sure. If he really fights Usyk next I'm not sure he wins that fight, Usyk is far more elusive due to his movement and with that southpaw stance his lead hand will block the path of Joyce's jab. At worst I think Joyce will be a solid contender type, better than say Chisora but not Povetkin level of contender.

Solid fundamentals, great chin, big man, great reach, good pacing, good jab, combo able - I think he's got no gifted sporting brain but he puts everything he knows together very well to be highly affective.

Good Post.. I was impressed with how he rolled shots... N the ones he got caught with flush his chin obviously was good.... I feel like chisora would wipe floor with Joyce.. Obviously not this older version of chisora... Whereas I feel like Joyce would beat whyte.. But I don't particularly rate whyte.

I'd have to watch Joyce vs hrgovic... I've only ever seen highlights

Well he's better than Chisora and Whyte that's for sure. I think he'll be a tough fight for Joshua if the bout is made.

What @Brighton bomber said. I'm too exhausted to write anything at the moment. And I'm not counting pure amateur matches, I've always considered WSB matches as semi-pro. Regardless, the Kuzmin KO was a bull**** stoppage.

Joyce is VERY good. He might not catch anyone's imagination, but as @Brighton bomber said, he is incredibly effective.

I think he deserved Olympic gold, and his resume of wins in the amateurs/WSB was amazing. He beat a lot of very talented guys even if most of them were much younger than him. Joyce beat:

    - Hrgovic
    - Yoka
    - Majidov
    - Jalolov
    - Vykhryst
    - Dychko
    - Clarke

I mean, that's really impressive. And note here that except of 6'3'' Majodov other guys in this list are huge heavyweights, 6'5'' at least

Oh I think it was a **** stoppage.. But at the time aside from mild surprise on his face I don't remember him complaining

My problem with these are that they are amateur wins.. And great amateurs don't always make great pros

I won't comment on vykhryst as I've never seen him at all

I’d agree with you, what I don’t agree with is the Froch comparison. Skills wise he’s levels above Joyce, better in every department, legit world class, Dubois an Joyce are domestic level
