Yes, the WBC is working with all 3 camps. Yes, the WBC wants to work something out to both have Cotto-Canelo and keep from having to do a 180 on GGG mandatory so early in new Prez career with the world watching.

No, nothing has been worked out yet.

Expect no news until after the 20th. Cotto will not sign a provisional to fight GGG under any circumstance. But, if DL beats HNN then Oscar will be able to offer K2 a different unification fight to fill the gap.

If DL loses or takes bad cuts, then who knows what will happen.

 

Actually Cotto weighed in below 154 in his last fight, so I wonder if you can say he actually defended the lineal title? His opponent was in the 157lb weight division as well...:conf In any case, if GGG got 3 major belts and was Undisputed, most media and historians would probably anoint him the Man officially anyhow.

The thing is, you keep saying "shut up and wait"... however, both Cotto and Canelo have refused to sign agreements stating that they will fight GGG if they win. Because K2 did offer to take a step-aside for Cotto-Canelo without issue, as long as they could get written assurance from both camps that Golovkin would in fact be next. No such assurance has been forthcoming, nor is it likely.

Oscar wants a MW belt for Canelo. Plus DL-GGG is a big Canadian fight in its own right (PPV in Canada, but what isnt), so thats pretty big incentive. HBO has been talking about DL-GGG ever since DL made a public comeback. Plus, if DL pulled the upset then GBP would have a huge MW PPV unification in-house.

So yes, instead of "shut up and wait" expect K2 to at least try to use what leverage they do have to get something out of the deal and expect the GBP side at least to try and play ball with pieces not named Canelo.
