Against froch the lights were too bright, the home town crowd got to him, he froze up and lost to an inferior fighter. He was never the same. Before that, he was not allowed in the super 6 because ward threatened to pull out if he was invited. I look at the SMW division today and I feel like a prime bute would clown these guys.

Wasn’t it just a case of a bit too much hype and not enough substance and then exposure by a good rugged boxer.

Bute was an excellent fighter at his peak, but he went down his quickly at a certain age. However, when Bute was at his peak, SOB Ward would not allow him to fight in his personal tournament!

I personally think both Kessler and Froch would have beaten any version of Bute... Both too tough for Bute to handle.

Bute would not have enjoyed Wards dirty/rough tactics had they fought imo.

His lights were out once Carl put it on him. Horrible style match up for him in which he wilted under the heat brought by Froch.

Kessler would of done a number on him too IMHO as would of Ward and Pascal ar 168.

Is that how it went down that super six with SOB making demands,I mean as if fighting every fight at home wasn’t enough.
Ward doesn’t half wind me up as he chose to stink out the opposition in big fights instead of using his boxing skills which we know he has.

below ward and froch at least.

handy world class opponent though, just never made his mark as a real elite, or really tried to while champion.

credit for trying for elitedom vs froch but thats where it when all wrong.

Savage beat down by Froch in what was a very risky fight, stuff like that brought out the best in him I think.
What a great warrior Froch was.

Which Lucian Bute are you talking about? I think you accidentally posted a video of the Lucian Bute who got so badly Cobra'd that he was then subjected to a legally obligated adoption by his now father Carl Froch. You are clearly talking about some other ATG Lucian Bute that I have never heard of. If you could post a video of that Lucian Bute it would be much appreciated.

The case could be made for him being #1 SMW in that period between 2008 when Calzaghe moved up and 2011 when Ward beat Froch - indeed, at one point Ward even said Bute was the man at SMW - but it wouldnt be an undisputed.

I think in Canada, Bute would have lasted longer against Froch, but the end result is the same. Andrade nearly had him, and Andrade is just a very poor mans Froch.

    Absolutely.
Showtime started the tournament while Bute was under contract with HBO.

After the Andrade rematch, they signed him to a 5 fight 10 mil deal so he could take Dirrel's spot.
Goosen, prior to signing Ward for the tournament, specified that the Olympic Gold Medalist had his choice of venue.
The Showtime tournament allowed each original entrant the choice to approve alternates.
Each of the remaining fighters signed off on Bute except for Ward.

That allowed Johnson in whom Bute dominated like no other.
