I take back everything that I ever said about Valuev and his chances at beating ATG'S

Nikolay Valuev is living proof that boxing is a hell of a lot more than just being big. Truth is, he should have lost to a 45 year old man, who hadn't fought in 15 months, hasn't beaten a rated opponent in years, was nearly 1 foot shorter, god knows how many pounds lighter, and can't get a goddamn boxing license in certain areas. His fights with Donald, Ruiz and Chagaev speak similar tones.

Sorry folks, but Valuev is no champion, and frankly I would not favor him to beat Marciano, Frazier or Tyson, regardless of the fact that he is some 14 inches taller and 100+ Lbs heavier. Holyfield in his prime beats up this heavy bag, and so does Ali and Holmes. I understand now why we haven't seen a Klitschko-Valuev fight, and personally I don't think we're missing anything.

As an American, I'm glad this fight did not take place within my borders..

    Have a nice evening........

In all honesty in the aftermath, would he even beat the mobile James Tillis? Jimmy Young would surely embarrass him would you say? Haven't seen the fight but i hear Valuev was like a big Mummy.

I saw it early this afternoon at a local bar that featured fight on satelite. It was much later in Switzerland of course. I sat down had a few beers, a little lunch and watched about 9 rounds out of 12. The fight was already in progress when I arrived. Glad I didn't pay to see it.

To answer your question John, I think there were a lot of guys who I'd pick to beat Valuev, and many of them do not necessarily fall into the realm of great either. Hell, the very version of Michael Dokes whom Holyfield slugged it out with in 1989 would certainly have my vote to beat Nikolay.

Valuev's enormous size might save him from getting Ko'd, but at the horribly subpar workrate that he'd put forth, the Rock or any decent fighter would out gun him.

Size DOES matter, but you also have to have heart. This guy doesn't have a single beat.

I'm probably going to bed soon JT. The fight has sedated me to the point where I'm drowsey, kind of like sitting in a 9 hour insurance seminar which is about equally as entertaining.

I'll catch it tommarrow if I'm not around tonight.

It would have been the beginning of a fairytale closing chapter on Holyfield's career if he managed to pull it off. The 'general' forum has a lot of mixed opinions on the decision. One judge had the fight a draw. It seems that Holyfield's showing over the course of the fight was made to look better due to Valuez's poor performance. We all knew Valuez was a monster when it comes to height, reach, and weight. And those attributes would have seen him through rather than his skills. I'm not sure if Holyfield turned back the clock during stages of the fight as it's hard to make that case without having viewed the fight.

Despite his age and long range inactivity, I would seriously pick Vitali Klitschko to hurt Nikolay Valuev and badly. He would not enjoy such an enormous size advantage over either of the Klitschko's as he has against most of his other foes, and addiitonally, the Klits would have both the skills and physical tools to beat him with. In all fairness, Valuev is not the first protected heavyweight champ in the history of the sport, but a good case can be made that he is probably the most.

I think we can now safely say that the curent genaration of heavyweights would have been prety roughly handeled in Holyfields hayday.

From a man with your knowlegde, i would've expected a rational response instead of an emotionally reasoned one (talking about the former statement, not the Johanson one).
