At first I was looking at this whole fight deal through my eyes as a fan. 50/50 was fair. I don't care who makes more just give us the fight we want. So when I hear the fight was off. I got upset and blame Pacman. But after reading everything regarding this whole deal and how it went down. And putting myself in Pac's shoes, having risk and faught all the Mexican Greats, moving up one division after another and conquering what seemingly was a no-chance fight against DLH and replacing him as the premier superstar and face of boxing, then to have Hatton who did not accomplish as much to demand 50/50 would be a disrepect to what I have faught for. I could see why it is about respect to what Pac has accomplished. Businesswise it is a good deal since Hatton bings in lots of money.. but when I put myself in Pac's shoes and understanding his pride, I can see now why it's more about honor and respect. People complain that boxing has become about money and business. It should be about accomplishment and talent, the best should get payed more like how it is in other sports. Well, when we accept and allow fight to be negotiated on draw-power, we continue to keep boxing in this state of affair. So in a sense what Pacman is fighting for is the not just himself but for a change in how Boxing should do business. If the best were to get paid more, we would get to see more big fights as fighter would pursue fighting the best to get the status and money. For these reasons, I give Pacman my respect again.
This "pride" **** is getting ridiculous. As if every other top level fighter out there doesn't have pride, or deserve respect and a fair shake. For the love of god, Manny beat Barrera, lost to Morales and then beat him. Lost twice to JMM in my eyes, and beat Oscar who was doing his best impersonation of his new statue at the staples center. What the hell does that have to do with pricing himself out of a fight in which he is already receiving more than his market value for... and screwing the fans over in the process? I don't take anything away from Pac's career, because it has been a great one for him. However, this **** has run thin really fast. The money split is decided by who brings the money to the table, and who puts the asses in the seats. Not only that, but the fight would be at 140 where Hatton is the recognized Champion as well. Hatton is being more than fair, and had stroked Pac's ego enough by giving him a larger share of the money... as well as spliting the UK PPV buys which Pac is where the biggest pay is going to come from, and has nothing to do with Pac. Not only that... but Pac already has a much larger Guarantee which is even more than he made against Oscar De La Hoya. What the hell else does this man need to satisfy his ego... I mean "pride"?
good post kestrel. imo pac did deserve at least 55% based on his accomplishments & current p4p status. and if ricky was really keen on his legacy the 3%-5% shouldnt have been an issue for a shot at the top dog in boxing.
It isn't something you would understand. You are being blindsided by money so every perception you base your judgment on will make you think it in terms of dollars.
:nut You don't think that this fight would have anything to do with pride or legacy? You are acting like Manny is doing the respectful, and honorable thing by outpricing himself, disrespecting Hatton himself, and leaving the fans high and dry. The only person making money the issue in this fight is Pac.... no matter how you twist things around. You are making zero sense.
so why did manny offer jmm such **** money to fight him when many people thought jmm won the fight, all about the respect was it nut
