    No.

Ali did fine in the early rounds but then went flat and gave away the middle rounds, no doubt resting. tried to catch up in the later rounds

Ali did nothing in the eighth but fool around and not much in the ninth

Even though he closed strong and shook frazier, I wouldnt give him the round

rd 11, he was in real trouble trying to survive

the 13th where both fought most of the round fighting on the inside, was close but Frazier still got the better of him

Ali won the next but then took a dump to the floor for everyone to see

Ali did good, better than anyone before him but not good enough

    he lost

While I agree Frazier fought better, does nobody else think that given the regrettable scoring vt merely roybds, not a "10 point must" system, that Ali might have won just due to edging more rounds?

And all 3 official scorers gave Ali the majority of the 1st 5 rounds.

Why? Is that not evidence of bias?

    Frazier won clearly.

Ali had trouble coping with this loss. He whined about the decision for years afterward even playing the race card as an excuse. Some of his fans will buy anything he said.

I thought that Joe Frazier clearly won the first bout with Muhammad Ali. In regards to the second bout, I now feel that Frazier should have been given the decision because he was making the fight and Ali was holding far too much. This is a big change on my part because I was a big Ali fan during much of the 1970s. However, I later became a bigger fan of aggressive fighters.

Frazier won handily, I just re watched the fight two nights ago. Ali won the first two rounds, Frazier closed the third strong making it a swing round in his favor or even. Frazier took the next two. I can't remember how I scored the remainder but I know there are several rounds I gave Frazier big in the middle as well as the 11, 13, 15. In the end I had it 9-6 Frazier with a knockdown in there for good measure. If someone wants to say 8-6-1 even ok and maybe 8-7 Frazier but I can't find more rounds to give Ali in that fight. Frazier landed the far more effective punches, bullied Ali onto the ropes and couldn't miss with the left hook all night. I actually can't find much of a debate to give this fight to Ali in any way. The right man won.

Nobody is answering my 2 part round scoring system question above, whether Ali might have edged ROUNDS even if an unfair wayto have it scored.

And why Frazier was given 3 of the 1st 5 rounds by the judges & referee.

I don't feel Ali edged rounds, I thought Joe won his rounds decisevely that is why I can't consider the fight debatable.

As for the first five rounds I thought Joe won three of them 3-5 pretty cut and dry. I also think he won 11,13,15 pretty cut and dry so right there is six rounds to Frazier. There are two middle rounds, I can't recall which ones where Ali takes off to catch a breather and joe wallops him that makes 8. All in all I had it 9-6 with a knockdown for good measure in Fraziers' favor.

If anything I think a case for 10-5 Frazier would be fair.

Yes Frazier won it no question.Ali didn't have the stamina and spent too long resting on the ropes.

You and Art Rust Jr. are the only two that I know that believe Ali won the first fight. I had it 10-5 Frazier, with Ali taking all the early rounds, and Frazier taking the rest.
